There appears to be a problem requesting domestic upgrades online.

The flights I have requested say "no seat available at this time" despite there being U inventory available on the flight.

How are you determining U inventory?

If you go into the award booking tool, does it show availability for an award flight? If so, then I'd suggest a call to QF and do over the phone

That's exactly how I did it.
I also confirmed availability with them over the phone.

Interesting problem; wonder what has gone wrong there

I think the problem is now fixed. I upgraded my flight from Sydney to Perth online and it worked...
