QF or Emirates dilemma

Have my first long haul flight to the UK for some years in October, and a very first world problem choosing between:
QF1 to LHR, returning from Edinburgh on EK, all booked as QF flights,
or booking with EK MEL to LGW and the same flights return from Edinburgh.

My situation…. In J. Paid by Work. Each itinerary same prices with QF sale fare. Outbound EK flight slightly more convenient departure and arrival times but not a deal breaker. Have requalified QF WP so don’t need SC’s.
But, the QF flight looks like it will earn about 50,000 QFF points more than EK!
I read a lot saying EK is far superior, but is it 50k points superior?

I think your points calc is off. MEL-LHR return on QF will earn abt 37K - 43K pts, depending on business category, I think??

What EK plane? A380 has 1-2-1 but B777 has 2-3-2, completely unacceptable. I would go with Qantas.

If you're on the QF codes on EK, it shouldn't make a difference. It's all Qantas-marketed...

The difference may come from the earning categories, or from booking on EK codes (which do indeed have a lower earn rate and no SCs).

trip is from CBR so some additional points, plus the SC earn on QF would earn 8,000 more - total of 73,000 according to the calculator. EK flights are A 380 outbound, return is the new a350 from Edinburgh then a380.

You're looking at QF codeshares on EK too? Or just EK codes?

That’s correct. It isn’t an option to book these EK flights as QF so EK points earn is around 26k vs 73,000k for the QF1 option

I would've thought you can through Qantas.com (unless you're forced to use a corporate travel agency).

I’d go with either QF/EK but ensure they’re all booked with QF codes. Those extra SCs all count towards LT status.

Otherwise, toss QR in the mix also. But it’ll be significantly less points (and SCs).

Corp TA should still be able to book EK codeshares (if in travel policy - which sounds like it is if QF1 is in play).

My lesson in this is that QF don’t sell every EK flight as a codeshare, only some. Tried multiple combinations and multi city bookings but didn’t work. Which makes sense, QF don’t compete with themselves….

Sorry my reply was a bit confusing, the SC earn would give a loyalty bonus so 8k points. I don’t think lifetime status is an issue for me - already LTG and no hope of LTP, and not enough flying for P1,either.
