I had a quick question. If a itinerary is based on multiple fare bases, Eg: SYD-HNL-LAX (S), LAX-MEL-SYD (Q), I understand that the most restrictive conditions will apply (in this case Q). I assume this restricts the ability to upgrade on SYD-HNL even though its S? I'm asking this because the SCs estimate on QF suggested that are earned would still be based on S/Q fares instead of just Q. Working as intended?

I believe that only the fare class on each individual sector in question is considered. So if SYD-HNL is booked on an upgradable fare class, you should be eligible to request a points upgrade on that flight.

I believe the more restrictive rules come into play for things like refunds & re-issues and not the ability to upgrade which is solely based on the fare component you have purchased for the sector you want to upgrade.

We bought a BNE/xSYD/HNL/xSYD/BNE ticket where the outbound was an upgradeable saver fare and the inbound was a sale fare.

We got our upgrade confirmed on the overnight outbound SYD/HNL flight so the more restrictive sale fare on our return flight had no bearing on the upgrade being permitted.
