Distance and cost perhaps. Expect this route was only 3 flights per week which makes it incredibly inconvenient and he destination airport is not even remotely close where pax actually want to get to, as well as lack public transport/ride share options.

Living in Perth if I want to get to Margaret River it's an easy 3 hour drive. If I were to fly I'm looking at door to door time of

Home to airport: 20 minutes
Airport time: 30 to 60 minutes
Flight time: 45 minutes
Airport time at BQB: 20 minutes?
Drive from BQB to Margaret River 45 to 50 minutes

I'm not even saving time by flying.

Yep and I said earlier in the thread ...it was cheaper to fly SYD-BQB via PER than the PER direct.

Well that depends on how far ahead you wanna book. I see SYD-CBR for 200 dollars one way. In fact I see a "cracker" for 99 dollars with VA....via OOL!! 4 and half hours of fun.
