Hi all,
I'm currently looking at J (or PE) seats from SYD-LAX and then returning JFK-SYD for late August/September this year and I'm curious to know, should I just keep an eye on QF's website or should I go through a specialist J travel agent? I recall signing up to QF Flyer (or QF Flier or similar, I actually can't find their website any more so I may not be spelling their name correctly) so would they be worth trying?
Currently QF.com are showing $8167 as their best price (22/8 and returning 9/9). They're saying that's a sale price.

Does that seem like a reasonable price or should i be holding off hoping for something cheaper? Or go via a travel agent?

That is expensive considering Aust - Europe J on Emirates is a similar price. But trans pacific has less competition do they do charge more

Although expensive in absolute terms that's not a terrible price for QF in J - the "regular" fare is over $10K.

Agree. A good travel agent should get you the same price but if its a straightforward reservation, doing it on line would be easier. Personally I'd look at SYD-LAX- SYD $7468 on QF then go to AA.com (US site, not the Australian one) to see what you can get JFK-LAX for on them (it sounds like you don't want LAX-JFK leg?)

TPAC is where QF have traditionally what meagre profit that make from international; always expensive.

Thanks for the replies.
Yep I'll be making my own way from LAX to JFK (probably via Seattle, DC amongst other places that I plan to organise closer to the time.)

... looking at J (or PE) seats ...

Do you have any QFF points? If you are happy to travel PE, you might get a decent price on those, with the chance to upgrade using points to J. When succesful, it is, IMHO, one of the best uses of QFF points.

BTW, a search in your approx time shows sale PE with QF for $3000 return SYD-LAX - that is a good fare. I love J, but I could put up with PE on that route for a saving of $2500 per flight!!

And +1 for RooFlyer suggestion re booking separate internal flights within USA.

By the time I fly I should have around 50-60K possibly.
I've heard they're a good use of points - and upgraded from PE to J on QF128 last month which was great.
Would any particular day of the week increase my chances of an upgrade?
