Its a Friday so good time for frivolous complaints.

The current QF safety video is really annoying now. We are years after the centenary and hearing how Qantas invented business class just prolongs the misery. Yes, we all wish for the upper deck lounge now.

The best videos were the 2016/2017 ones highlighting the natural beauty across this country. Never got tired of those. There should probably be two videos - one outbound overseas showing international destinations (the australian classic double shot flat white) and one inbound showing the true Australia (logan bogan, qld).

Have to agree, really starting to grate now, along with “eggsit”. Since when has exit been spelt with a “g”. Kangaroo comment, humorous the first 30 times, then… well you know! Time for a much needed change.

Still not as bad as “two flat whites”

I do wish there was a short domestic version with much of the Aussie cut out - it’s really grating at 7am Monday morning on a domestic flight hearing it for the 100th time

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I was just sitting on a flight today watching the safety demo and thinking something like gee we find it annoying... imagine you're cabin crew and have to work to it (do the demo, stand there and look pleasant or serious or whatever) for a number of times during a working day.... after day... after day......

I wish the safety videos would stop trying to be "entertaining" and just do what they need to and get on with it. This attempt to be entertainment just makes them longer then they need to be.

Short, simple and informative is best, like what QF uses for their international non English version.

I think it’s supposed to get people to watch. Simple and informative might not be thought the best way to engage people. Dunno.

I actually like this video, best ever IMO! Never get tired of it.

‘Including e-cigarettes… whatever they are’ is just genius. The inclusion of Dunhill Red captures the time perfectly.

The ‘our life jackets looked like this, today, you’re are a little more modern’ is also brilliant.

Full marks to the scriptwriters.

As @RichardMEL said, the new one will be here soon and I believe it will include scenes shot in various different countries.

While I don't think this will happen, I do like @exmc's idea of having a different version of the video for outbound and inbound international flights. I can't recall any airline that has done this?

I suggest you don't fly MH any time soon then.

I like safety videos that feature Qantas staff as opposed to celebrities, so I like this current one.

The bit I consistently get a chuckle out of is the 1960s segment where the elderly European couple are looking out the window. The husband makes a comment about kangaroos and the wife gives him an exasperated look. Then, the good looking blonde flight attendant (she's credited at the end, I think her name might be Chelsea?), leans in to the man and says - in dulcet, do-me tones - "Welcome to Australia". They cut to the next bit after that, but I'm always picturing the wife lunging out of her seat shouting "Keep your hands off my husband, you hussy!"

Oh how my eyes roll when the music starts playing for the second time as the video plays in whatever local language is required.

I liked the previous versions that showcased parts of Australia, much like how SQ does with theirs. I reckon it really doesn’t help that that we’ve had this video for the whole duration of the you know what so definitely time for a change.

Obviously, Qantas wanted to extract every dollar celebrating its 100th birthday to milk the safety video for nearly four years. I must admit that I've stopped actively watching it because of the number of times I've heard it (feel sorry for the crew), and also because it goes for an awful long time.

Speaking of previous years, I have put a list of when the previous versions were released. Before this one came out, Qantas was on a roll in rotating them every 12-18 months at one stge.

John Travolta - January 2012
Safety in Style December 2013
Aussie landscape 1 - February 2016
Aussie landscape 2 - January 2017
Double shots maaaaate - February 2018
Qantas Centenary - February 2020

Weren't there a couple of others in there between 2013 and 2016 too? There was the cringe "Hello Captain, Hello Skipper" cricket one, and the one for the olympics (which I am pretty sure was 2016) with the olympians?

(thanks for the YT links btw!)

Georgia, with the green eye liner from the 70's... *swoon*

...you missed the one before Travolta, which I think was, "Subtly, every aircraft is different," (the long version featured a summary of the presentation before it got into it: "Let me explain...").

I have to admit it's time for a new safety video. Not sure what they had in mind for the new one, but I think it's time to move on from the 100 year one. The thank yous at the end are grating against Qantas' image at the moment (i.e. anything but thankful).

There's a balance between entertaining, informative and length. I do think the QF video is a bit too long, but it was celebrating the Centenary.

I don't know if Qantas or any other airline are forced to explain certain procedures in certain ways, otherwise I'd agree that something like the QF non-English summary videos would be fine. In fact, what is wrong with the cabin crew simply saying there's a safety card in your seat pocket, please read it, follow our instructions because it's the law, and that's that? (Someone is going to say either there is a CASA directive and/or a safety obligation on Qantas' part and/or people need to be suitably informed about the safety... well...)

I guess some people might just say that Qantas should stop forcing its FAs to do the safety demo, like almost every other airline in the world that has TV screens in the cabin. I personally don't mind it, and a former AFF member who was a QF FA explained from her point of view why it's beneficial, but there you go.

Some things I would like Qantas to change in their scripts: "There's a red tag and mouthpiece for inflation" -> "As you exit the aircraft, pull the red tag to inflate the life jacket. You can also blow into the mouthpiece."

They could simply just use the audio tracks that play on the Dash 8s and B717 fleet - both are fine, and less noisy than the bloody video.
