Good old Ben is reporting that QF were involved in two near misses last week, at face value the second one appears a beat up if in fact the Nomad did turn in after the 737 passed, there is nothing wrong with visual separation "report sighting and passing" before commencing a change in heading if in fact that was the instruction! If the ATSB are investigating then there must be some substance to the reports! At least the news that there is still a Nomad flying is newsworthy!

The ATSB is investigating a potentially deadly dance between a small Nomad turbo-prop and two Qantas 737s in quick succession on approach to Melbourne Airport last Thursday afternoon.
The encounters which broke air separation standards, and are described as ‘serious’ by the safety investigator, occurred around 28 kilometres NE of the airport, as a Qantas flight from Brisbane, followed at a normal distance by a Qantas flight from Adelaide, joined the final legs of the descent pattern to Tullamarine between 1.18 and 1.22 pm.

To be fair the article does say
There is nothing in the notification of last Thursday’s incident which allows any early conclusions to be drawn other than that the two Qantas 737s appear to be making perfectly normal approaches to the airport.
and I can't really see any implied criticism of Qantas here although perhaps it would be better if the title of the article was something like "Nomad breaks air seperation standards near Melbourne' or similar.
The ATSB report will make interesting reading.
Cheers

Commercial success does not come from putting a helicopter engine on a plane, mind you the same engine also powered the worlds most powerful motorobike. Will be interesting to see what the folks at Gippsland Aeronautics do with the Nomad production rights! At least ATO is still flying, maybe its a tax deduction LOL.
