QF in LAX top 10

Interestingly it's third largest for International, beating out US airlines which operate internationally from LAX.

Not overly surprising - I suspect most Americans tend to travel East (UK/Europe) or South (Caribbean/Cntrl/Sth America)

Interesting to note just how big AA will become once US Airways figures are pooled together
(obviously some time down the track, but it will knock UA down to #2)

Do QF market heavily within New York? Are they actually picking up American's coming to Australia or is it more Australian's going to/from New York?

Having an international config J and Y+ to 3 Australian cities is a great competitive advantage compared to what DL, UA and AA (domestic) can offer so hopefully QF are actaully promoting the service to ensure it remains viable - although with QF's track record who knows....

Qantas to fly daily from Los Angeles to New York - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Such a pity they can't market just the domestic service. Surely they can do a deal with AA on that single daily flight?

Qantas cannot sell domestic tickets that are not part of an international intin as they are not allowed under their air rights (Cabotage), same applies for foreign carriers here such as UA and formerly BA who operated Syd-Mel legs.

Is that because the flight operates solely within the USA and/or AA has flights on that route?
CX can sell JFK-YVR as a stand alone ticket despite AA flying there via DFW.

Its because Qantas dont have Cabotage rights within the USA, same as EK and UA etc dont here, so EK fly across the ditch while UA do a QF and park one and send one to Melbourne with only their passengers onboard, same with CX ex ADL and BNE when they fly to another aussie port.

Could they get them? Or would the cost and effort to do so not be worthwhile to sell seats on JFK-LAX?

I suppose they could try, but I doubt it would be successful and just put off some close allies. If they did it might also open the door for the reverse, imagine UA servicing the domestic market.

So the QF Dom numbers (189,511) are people that did a stopover in LA?

Mostly transit from inbound flights I would imagine.

Ok, forgot about that bit...

Geez, not many do the LA stopover or are they doing AA status runs once they touch the ground;)

Often wondered whether or not AA ( and not QF) would be able to get rights to sell their codeshare on the QF service domestically (and upgrade to A380) but I assume the restrictions are on who operates irrespective of who markets the flight, and also that it would not be in their best interests to do so.
