I just checked, in line with the current special offer, it appears that there are I fares available from NZ to Australia. If booking from Australia the I fares are not appearing.
NZ has not, yet, matched it.

What special offer?

Something really wierd is going on. When I check AKL-MEL return it gives me lots of routing options via SYD and when I check AKL-SYD return, on the same dates, it gives me lots of options via MEL!

I have not had too much time to investigate myself so apologies regarding when they are valid etc. Read email regarding short sale for NZ-OZ due to "market activity" so looked up WLG-SYD for May. Return showed some fares but under direct services they had $668 for Business Class, no availability for non-direct services. I cannot book now due to personal reasons but thought that there could be a small window to get them.

Seems to be available May - late June
NZ$626 for AKL-MEL-SYD = 120 SCs, return NZ$664 (both figures incl taxes etc).
NZ$626 for AKL-MEL-ADL

NZ$630 for AKL-SYD-MEL, return NZ$668

AKL-SYD-BNE slightly more

AKL-SYD-MEL-HBA NZ$856 = 160 SCs

Perfectly understandable when you understand the rules behind the flight search engine. Rule number 1 is to maximise the fuel surcharge revenue for Qantas by ensuring people take non-direct routings.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Given the wierd results I see I think safe to assume something gone wrong with the load. So book quickly if you can. From AKL, Hobart looks the best bet.

I also checked other cities PER, CNS, CBR - none as good as the ones I listed.

If it weren't true it would be funny.

Upon further investigation it isnt an I class sale. Business class unavailable on any trans-tasman flight May/June.

So looks like fare returned is combo of economy trans-tasman and business for Oz domestic. Now wonder what would happen if turned up at check in hoping for business class trans-tasman (after all the flight conditions says Business class).

Ok things have changed so Kiwi Flyer is looking right. For me the direct flights are now out with no seats? But I can do things like SYD-CBR (D8???)-MEL-WLG in Business for $664??? This changes everytime I look at it.
I wonder if the outage Kiwi Flyer experienced today had anything to do with it?
I see some good status runs as well.;)

I still get it showing up on fare page, but if you select and then go to book it shows a small line "business class unavailable on this flight" under the trans-tasman legs.

Well I am not going to start rumours of this being the first sign that JQ or even Jetconnect starting an all WHY service across the Tasman.;) If so then I will be doing nothing but LA trans-Tasman or back to NZ.:-|

I am sure availability has been loaded funny - check out flights zeroed out in economy as well (but not when married to an Aust domestic flight).

I couldn't find a more appropriate thread to post this so i hope someone can help.

As the QF won't let me search for flights which originate in NZ on its Aust site and the prices are in NZD on the NZ site are better, is there any difference to booking flights this way from Aust other than the CC fee for conversion? the set of flights i am looking at are considerably cheaper if i book them one way from the NZ site than if i look at the return leg of a SYD-ZQN-SYD from the AUS site. Its only the return leg i want to change and it appear much cheaper to do it this way

Also, will i be able to use credit vouchers i have with QF to book these flights or will they not convert them into NZD?

Almost all the time prices are cheaper ex-NZ for trans-tasman or US flights.

Booking is mostly the same, but not no multi-city bookings.

I tried once to use my QF vouchers this way and the telephone operator said that she could not convert them.
There is no problem using the booking in the way that you suggested except if something goes wrong with the first flight and then you may need to do changes to both.

NZ business class tasman sale (Z class) on again - sales to 31 May for travel to 27 June.

SYD/MEL/BNE/ADL

QF matching in I class.
