Just a couple of questions here, booked to fly KUL to HKT and return with MH in Y. (Just a cheap discount economy ticket)

Flying in with EK from MEL-KUL (QF flight number) so I'll be using the EK lounge before departure and being OW Sapphire, I should have access to MH lounges however what about baggage? I seem to be running into a brick wall in trying to find out if I'm still restricted to the 20kg bag for the MH sectors or being OW Sapphire do I get an extra bag? (or is that just a QF thing?)

Thanks

Extra baggage is not a OneWorld entitlement for gold

You are entitled to the following oneworld benefits:
Priority Business Class check-in
Preferred boarding
Preferred seating (where offered)
Priority standby and waitlisting
Access to Business Class and frequent flyer lounges (with one guest), regardless of the class of service flown that day (excludes Qantas Domestic Business Class lounges)

Note MH have a 30kg allowance in Y.

Weight System (all destinations except North and South America)

Cabin Weight / Dimension (length+width+height)
First Class 50 kg (110 lbs) / Not exceeding 158 cm (62 inch)
Business Class 40 kg (88 lbs) / Not exceeding 158 cm (62 inch)
Economy Class 30 kg (66 lbs) / Not exceeding 158 cm (62 inch)
Infants
One bag with maximum dimensions of 115 cm (45 inch), which may be carried as cabin baggage and;
One fully collapsible baby pushchair or stroller or carrying basket.

The weight of the allowed items may not exceed 10 kg (22 lbs) in total.

The baggage guidelines above will apply to flights from 14 February 2013 onwards irrespective of tickets issued earlier reflecting the lower free allowance.

As an emerald with a future MH booking I anticipate that the extra allowance listed at Oneworld.com will apply. 20kg in my case.

Are you sure it's only one bag. My reading of the MH website only shows a weight restriction for flights not going to the US. I'm assuming there is no piece restriction.

You won't be able to use MH lounges with the MEL-KUL-MEL flights, only before the KUL-HKT-KUL flights.

Will be stuck with the EK lounge at that hour anyway, even the Qantas Club will be closed at check in time since it's around a 1am departure from MEL. As for KUL, there is an EK lounge again which I can use. The only place where there is no lounge is HKT.

Shame though, equivalent of QF Gold is Enrich Gold which gets a 50% extra baggage allowance.

How do you get to use the EK lounge?

SG have access when on QF or EK service, OP presumably it talking about access on the return leg versus onward travel.

Seems to be a blanket statement about KUL, without such distinction.

Yep, didn't work it correctly in the original post.

MEL-KUL-MEL is on EK Metal but QF ticketed and will have access to the EK lounge being Gold.

KUL-HKT-KUL will have access to MH lounge only in KUL (no lounge in HKT to use)

Ah silly me, didn't think of that! It's a 1pm departure.

Well you have 3 lounge choices in KUL, the MH regional lounge, the MH satellite lounge and the CX lounge. Personally i think the CX lounge is best for its ambience, but the MH satellite lounge good for its food.
