With the double SC looking good i hope to be SG before my next long haul flight.

Just wondering if anyone knows what access to reserved seats SG have in premium cabins on certain aircraft (ie how far forward one can go). I have a last minute booking to make and see a lot of reserved seats specially in the premium cabins. I don't want to play T80 roulette if i can avoid it.

Specifically im after.
B744 - Y, Y+ & J
A380 - J

Are there any general rules for seating for SG eg access to reserved bulk heads, exit rows ect on these aircraft? Or is it that all reserved seats open up for SG? Everything but the front row of each cabin?

Thanks for your help.

For the A380 in J rows 11-13, the front mini cabin are known as Emerald city for a reason.

For domestic gold seems to have fairly limited seating options until the magic 'T-' time. For international there is usually a reasonable selection sprinkled throughout the plane. A family member is a bronze and was able to select the bulkhead on an award booking in Y+ SFO-SYD months in advance. Another bronze member was able to select 5B and 5J on the 744 in business class, also several weeks before departure.

While some areas such as emerald city might be blocked, there are usually some reasonable alternatives for international. It's not the same blanket ban they have for domestic.

So as a PS, when I become SG I may not see much (if anything) in additional seat choices for Y+ international?

that is quite possibly true... although maybe you might have a couple more 'good' seats available over a silver or bronze??

I am hoping so.
Looking for seating in a few weeks and currently on Qf74 in y+ there is only like the front row (blocked) an ok aisle and some middles seats. So hoping if i book i can get the front row. Is it likely?

Given my bronze family member was able to select the front row bulkhead at time of booking (months in advance), maybe those seats have already gone? Although there might be some upgrades freeing those seats up closer to departure.

Expert flyer says the left front row are just blocked.
I've selected bulk seat on the right side next to the galley before. But they takesn already. Hoping for the left. If not hoping there are some good seats available in Y.

As QF is one of the (relatively few ?) airlines that sells Y exit rows for extra outlay, I assume they appear on the seat map for sale to all levels. Or are they available for free selection to some ? (I am sure there are lots of CL clamouring for them ;)).

In my experience the days of exit row seats still being open at checkin are long gone. Prior to QF selling them they were often still available then to anyone for free, just for asking (it helped to be tall). So putting them on sale has seemingly created a demand amongst generally-savvy QF pax that did not exist before.
