QF flight times SYD to LAX - why do they fly in the morning?

I agree. One of the big reasons is so that you can then connect and get through to the East Coast by midnight that night (local) to start work the next day. So you leave Oz on a Sunday, and you can start work in US time on Monday morning. Cannot do this with VA who leave later.

If my final destination was LAX or even London, Id prefer the option of arriving in the afternoon or later and going straight to the hotel.
I hate getting in at an OMG hour and waiting around for the room to be ready.

That would be painful at any time of flight and wholly unwanted...

Yep, I didn't realise how spoilt I had been over the last few years, and just what a difference it made to my comfort (physical and mental).

Oh well.....whY again on QF11 in a couple of weeks.....

Dealing with this on my upcoming flight to London. Plan is to have a relaxing exit from the aircraft, shower in the arrivals lounge in LHR (flying BA in J) then a leisurely ride into the city and to the hotel aiming to get in there around 9:30AM. Drop bags at the hotel and then do some shopping for the rest of the morning. Back to the hotel early afternoon (maybe have some lunch out), brief snooze and then dinner.
