Hi all, has anyone bought the flight vouchers with 10 points/dollar spent from the QF website with themselves as the recipient? I need to book a heap of flights and this seems like easy points.

Thanks, D

Yes, theres no requirement to gift them to anyone.

Apart from the issue of the $2 residual value discussed in the main thread on this, I've used probably 5 of 6 of them, gifted from myself to me, and flown one booking (not that that was a surprise :) ). no issue.

The only other issue I had with using them is to use ex-Aus for a F sector (you all can guess what I'm talking about :) ) I had to call QF since it's not offered online via flight lookup, but they did that in about 90 seconds no question, no fees and very happy to help. They also noted they COULD be used for origins outside of oz, but you had to call QF to do it, as the vouchers are priced in AUD and it's too hard online to do the conversions or whatnot, but it is possible.

they're easy to use, and if making bookings or thinking there will be some in the next year and the money is available, a great investment to get some "free" points on the side. Also the CC charge benefit is a nice one too.

Did just this in my lunch break today. Bought $150 worth of vouchers for myself, waited 10 minutes for booking confirmation, booked two red e-deal flights to make use of a double SC offer.

In what respect are they difficult to use John?
Business class SYD/BNE-BKK not booked 350 days out. And a Platinum requesting a seat also rejected.

The jury is still out but I think it will get worse when all Asian routes are A330.

More and more points flooding the market with the same, if not less, award seats made available. Toast is not my favourite food.

OK so you're referring to award redemption issues with points - seems to me a very different issue to using a gift voucher to book revenue flights. IMHO.

Points can be used for more than premium awards as you know. :)

I have bought these the last couple of years for myself and yes, in one instance I did have to call Qantas but they were really helpful. I will be getting these again this year.

All sorted- just burnt $1500 worth of vouchers for a heap of domestic flights, should be a nice 15,000 point haul.

Economy awards? Where it costs 60,000 points + ~$550 to book an ~$750 airfare that earns ~10,000 points.

Oneworld awards are also good value.

Apologies for anyone confused by my statement. Nothing wrong with gift vouchers.

Well I for one use points for J->F upgrades. I agree QFF awards with the extra "taxes" (fuel etc) on top are no value at all, but these are all separate issues anyway.

heck I even had a friend scared QF would go under and blew all her points on woolies vouchers. she seems happy enough I just rolled my eyes and boarded my flight to LAX :D

everyone's mileage varies ... or rather points value :)

The main issues with gift vouchers are:

  • Problems with low value residual vouchers being issued.
  • Must fly with the same number of passengers as per purchased voucher - but may be changeable with a phone call.
  • Can't change flights online once the initial flights are booked for the gift voucher. and have to ring, but phone assistance fee should be waived
  • In the past a phone call has been required to redeem residual gift vouchers.

Probably not real big issues, but still minor issues.

Red Roo,

Can you please confirm that vouchers can be used for travel SIN to PER via MEL for example?
