QF Flight credit

We were due to travel from UK to Australia, unfortunately via the Middle East this week. Obviously had to cancel as our travel insurance would have been invalidated due to Government advice. We’d booked internal flights with QF and VA on separate (non refundable) tickets. VA have very kindly given us a refund. QF will only offer a travel credit valid 12m from date of booking (Sept). We can’t now travel until October at the earliest so asked QF if able to extend the credit but they won’t. I’ve spoken to them by phone and emailed them. The flight is still booked for this Saturday 4/4. (Red eDeal cost $1000). Will we at least get the taxes refunded? Any other options anyone can think of before we lose this money?
