We're 2 people flying on QF107 SYD-JFK in Y in late March. Currently I'm QF NB but will make PS about 6 weeks before we leave. I've been playing with Expert Flyer to see if there's going to be paid Exit Row seating available for booking once I've made PS - but I'm unsure of the markings in EF relating to paid exit rows.

Is there any way of telling the difference between occupied (blue square) and blocked (blue square with X) when it comes to available exit row seats for purchase? Obviously because there are two of us I'm concerned there is no availability all the way through to JFK.
I saw this thread but it's back from 2006 pre QF paid exit row policy.

OK, The following is in relation to Qantas. It can vary depending on the airline.

The
blocked-seat.gif
indicates 'Q-Blocked" seats ; not allocated as yet but are reserved for elites, speciall allocation etc.

free-seat.gif
indicate fully available seating should you be able to allocate.

occupied-seat.gif
indicates the seat is allocated.

So, 58C is you best bet.

It is unusual that 58B has been allocated with no adjoing seat being allocated as well. What ever you do, avoid 58A/K!

Thanks Serfty. So it looks like that the chances of seats for two of us on this flight all the way to JFK are minimal, given that there's no pair available from LAX-JFK. However SYD-LAX looks good. Next question - can Qantas sell me the two exit row seats just for SYD-LAX, even though our ticket is SYD-JFK?

The other option would be to purchase 58C only. I am assuming 58A is not sold by Qantas, but that we could allocate it online? If so we could try and convince whoever is in 58B to swap to 58C in order to give the other half more room and share the space between A&B between us. Thoughts?

At QF checkin in SFO last November I'm sure I overheard a pax asking for an exit row seat on the 744 flight SFO/SYD and heard the checkin agent saying that they didn't charge for 58A as the exit door containing the escape slide cuts into the leg room of the pax in that seat.

Cheers

Thanks all. Anyone know if QF will sell me us exit row for SYD-LAX and a regular seat allocation for LAX-JFK, even if we're ticketed all the way through?
