Just booked above trip for $2500. Probably no bargain, but seemed a nice way to travel for a 5 day layover in MEL and then 5 day layover in AKL on return.

Have not used the EK J product before, so will be interesting comparison to my flight in QF J on the A380 and 744.

J booking suited as I am taking my bicycle so no worries about baggage allowance.

Managed to book through QF Website, which surprised the QF reservations consultant when I rang to check something, that it allowed a same day BNE-AKL-MEL routing on a QF flight number on EK Metal.

So should be 320 SC by my calcs with another BNE-DXB-Europe return to add in the New Year.

Have never had the spare time to do this impulsive travel before, so must admit to being a little excited about it!

That's a decent amount of money spent on a status run but at least you get to experience a real long haul J product.
