Hi all.

I will be flying from Hong Kong to New York and have the option of booking on CX888 which has a stop in Vancouver as opposed to other direct CX options. Does this flight earn QF points and credits as HKG - YVR - JFK or just HKG - JFK. Thinking this could be an opportunity to maximize points earn for $$'s. The extra time it takes isn't a concern.

Thanks! :)

To assist with answering your questions about SC earn, Firstly does the fare bucket that you have booked into , eligible to earn SC's on QF?
( Some of the cheaper CX fare buckets don't earn on QF).

Secondly, with regard to the flights do the flight numbers change?
( Ie: is their a different flight number for the different segments flown or is the ticket just the one flight number all the way through to JFK?)

I will be in an eligible fare bucket.

The flight number does not change. CX888 is the flight number for the entire journey.

Ok, You will earn QF SC's and points for the trip taken as HKG > JFK as one sector in this case unless you change flight Numbers in YVR.

whats the fare bucket if you don't mind me asking?

I'm booking Premium Economy unless I can convince myself to spend more on business.

I assume they are all eligible? Please tell me if I'm wrong otherwise it'll be a rude shock.

I would highly recommend finding out the fare bucket first before pulling the lever if your keen on the points & SC's.

What you may not know is that you should be able to do is book this flight on an AA flight number ( The QF points calculator is showing this as an option).
If you book with an AA flight number and have QF silver status and above you will find you will actually earn a greater number of points due to the 'loyalty bonus'. (AA & QF are 'mates' in terms of points earn, and AA gives out more points than other OW carriers to QFF members with status).

So long as your booked into an eligible fare bucket in PE ( either CX or AA) the SC's earnt will be 80 SC in each direction.

(I was rebooked onto CX888 in 2013 after Typhoon Wipha made most ground transport Tokyo to stop, thus causing me to miss my HND-HKG-JFK check in)
CX888 through to JFK is treated the same way for earning as QF1/2/11/12/93/94 is when both sectors are flown.

There is no extra screening in HKG at the gate as their is for other US flights, as it is a flight to Canada. During the stop over at YVR, everyone gets off with the pax remaining in Vancouver heading off to boarder control while those continuing to New York directed into a holding room where cabin baggage is searched. No preclearance, unlike most other flights from Canada, and arrives at JFK T7 (T8 from monday) as an international flight with following CBP checks.

I have earned points and credits on CX888 in 2014 and as Himeno said you will be offloaded to the gate once you arrive at Vancouver
