QF Double Status Credits (SC) offer for all :)

The one April last year was for everybody (it was not targeted though they didn't email everyone about it) and runs for flights through to sometime in mid-April this year. You just had to register and make bookings during the booking window. The targeted 50% bonus offers come up more regularly (typically mostly for different people each offer though).

Got double SC and an op-up for a domestic flight just recently. A business class seat with half the SCs one would get if one bought a business seat normally and at a fraction of the cost.
 
Unfortunately, whenever I see this thread title pop up, my immediate reaction is that this is a new offer, when it never is. :(

Not sure if I can block this thread. I have now unsubscribed, so that's a start, I guess.
 
There's still nearly two months of flying left before no more qualifying flights can be flown.

I doubt we'll see a new DSC offer before April if there is one this year. I can't see QANTAS wanting much of an overlap (if any) with the qualifying flight period for last year's promo.
 
Not exactly the same but similar. I had to split the original DSC booking into two (the second passenger wasn't travelling) and to cancel one ticket. The agent cancelled the old PNR, and created a new PNR for mine, although I specifically asked for the old PNR to retain. I called the FF team and they listened to the tape (or maybe just looked into what happened) and confirmed that my new PNR would still be eligible but they would have to do a manual processing (they made an internal note on my account or PNR, not sure).

Upon completion of travel, as expected, DSC didn't post so I called and they investigated, but had to wait until the obligatory 12 weeks waiting period. The FF team supervisor was really through, and assured me that she would put a reminder in her calendar to check my account after that period lapses. Shortly after 12 weeks since the flight the bonus SCs were credited, so despite the sales team initial stuff up I am pretty happy with how QF handled it.

I suggest try calling the FF team and seek to speak to a supervisor.

I had your exact same scenario re splitting a ticket, cancelling one person and retaining mine as a voucher, with new PNR and booking ref. Just took the new flights and DSCs posted without manual intervention, thankfully. I had asked for the new flights to be DSC eligible but had been told I would probably need to call - so pretty happy. Seen me hit P1 earlier than expected.

regarding the DSC offer conditions - when QF wrote "changes or cancellation" to booking, I am pretty sure they meant changes resulting in creation of a new booking - eg a reissue for some reason like changed routings or something. A change in date or time of flights wouldn't do this. Obviously a cancel will nuke the original booking.

Whilst I agree with what you say about changes that result in the creation of a new booking, a reissue for some reason like changed routings doesn't have to do that. Ticket reissue within the same PNR will retain eligibility (provided travel dates meet the criteria).

I successfully changed destination, travel class and dates on an eligible booking - and had DSC successfully post automatically - no intervention. That said, I made sure it didn't go through the credit voucher route.

When doing this, it helps significantly to be doing changes to a flex fare.

My approach - one I knew I wouldn't be travelling the original itinerary.

1. Change dates (only) on booking online - push out well into the future (making sure still within the eligible period). Pick new flights that result in no fare difference (not difficult to find - I don't care about exact dates or times).
2. When I know what I really need, make another change. Need to call up now (can't make more than one change to a Flex online - silly limitation of QF online). Service change fee for making change via Call Centre waived (because it can't be done online). Make changes are required - to dates, destination, cabin class (changed a Flex Economy on one route to a Business on another). Dates still eligible, and flex conditions of equal or higher class / price honoured. Pay the difference. All done within the same PNR.

DSC all posted automatically without any issues at all.
 
I have got just one more flight to book in this membership year, ends Oct. The flight will need to be booked by around midyear, and it needs bonus SC's to keep me at Gold. What are my chances?

Is that based on any facts or insight?
Or purely that they either WILL or WILL NOT do it again. Meaning 50% chance it will happen and 50% change it will not.
 
Thank you, that is quite encouraging, so I will wait as long as possible.

Personally I think you should take some things into consideration.

Given the chances of a bonus SC promotion are iffy - or even if they launch another, what if it is only +50% rather than DSC? Or something else? Or you may get a targeted promotion, but for the wrong promo period? It's also possible that any promotion involving bonus SC's will be for specific flights or QF metal only(as with last year) or other restrictions that may not suit your requirements.

That aside, this trip you need to take would you normally book it as a flexible fare or sale? If the former, then it would make some sense to book now - you have the seat and you can easily cancel and rebook if a promo comes along that suits? If sale, you should probably book when something good comes along as you can never assume a promotion will appear that suits (IMHO anyway).

If it's a trip that may require changes this should also be taken into account (in which case you'd probably want a more flexible fare anyway) if the trip itself is flexible (say visiting a friend or relo) but needs to be taken by Oct then fine to wait, but keep in mind that availability may disappear depending on the route and you may be stuck waiting for something that doesn't come through, or maybe it does. It's a gamble.

Finally if you want to attain Gold, you may consider a status run also to ensure it rather than waiting - if you think the value is there.
 
Maybe around 50% (just a guess) was being a bit optimistic and as RichardMEL says you could get a deal that you can't use. Last year's deal was pretty generous.

With the current environment and QF's profit down one would think they would want to encourage more bookings and that an offer of some sort would be a good idea, but that's just a hunch.

As last year's deal runs out mid-April I doubt we'll see anything till at least sometime around then (if there is an offer at all).

I've already booked my status run for this year which will make the difference between dropping back to SG and retaining WP.
 
QF's profit announcement did say that there was ongoing soft demand which does suggest some sort of a promotion. They'd also noted lower prices which impacted on yield.

They have also just raised average prices by around 5% that I could tell (domestic) and I am sure that will have an impact, plus I have noticed on some routes some capacity cutes (for example last Saturday alone there were no BNE-MEL flights between lunchtime and 5pm)

We'll just have to wait and see what they try (if anything further) to increase revenue.
 
Thanks for so much input! Status runs are not for me, I'll be spending more time travelling than at home for the rest of this year. We generally travel in family groups, so tend to buy economy sale, although I occasionally buy flex if a change is likely. I only use J for the odd occasion where it could get me status.
This year I am about 170 short to keep gold, and have one fight BRI to CHC left to book, so if I travel J on Qantas thatis 120 via SYD or 140 via MEL. With a bonus that's enough.

WP is great. Priority boarding (when it works) is a fantastic benefit as are the Dom J and the FLounges when flying internationally. Being able to select row 6 (if available) domestically just after you've booked as is access to better seats when flying internationally.

Doing my last trip on 2016's DSC offer soon which with forward bookings (not on DSC) will make the difference to retain WP. So I'll have got WP for the first time and retained it with some help from this offer.

We really need to catch up in an F lounge for dual WP 'first timer' celebration. A quick trip across the ditch on Weds 5th April? :D
 
This offer has been fantastic for me. It has helped both with getting WP for the first time and once my last lot of DSCs (which I'm waiting for now) come through for this 2016 offer and I fly some other flights on standard SCs it will have helped to retain WP as well.
