QF Double Status Credits (SC) offer for all :)

Something to get us back on topic eventually is if people post when the extra credits come through.
Something like flew 1 May. Extra points credited 15 May (15 days).
I assume its too early to see anyone get them yet though. Something for later.

Whatever the motive behind this DSC promotion, it was a clever move on QF's part: score more early bookings, bait the travellers who are short of reaching a new level, etc. I also think the game plan was also to keep VA at bay. VA are starting to have their new J cabin on the 777s and a DSC offer may just sway someone away from VA back to QF with a now-inferior product across the Pacific and to the Middle East. The DSC promotion travel period ends in April 2017. Guess what? VA should have all their 777s refurbished by September/October. People who could have potentially booked with VA have now booked on QF. Win for QF or VA.

I agree
I reckon a lot of people ( me included ) have now booked in their travel for the next twelve months and Qantas has the money in hand in their account earning ( some piddly ) interest
Not only that I reckon for a lot of people Qantas will get a benefit into 2018 as people spend in 2017 to maintain the particular status they earn in 2016/17
Personally I think it is a good business move by Qantas to maintain bums on seats and profitability going forward.
If more people get into the lounge then maybe they just need to put some more water in the soup to cater for it and put out extra spoons !

I haven't booked much travel for my next membership year as it's not certain yet how much I will do. Would have loved to have been able to, but I certainly don't want to book status runs that may prove to be unneeded or clash with work travel.

I have a problem.

I booked return discount Y with DSC and now need to change one of my flights. Am I best to keep the existing booking and book one way Flex Y so I still get the SC I need?

From memory changes in the past meant any promotions were nullified if you made changes.

It would appear that changes are permitted with current promotion. Think that was confirmed by Red Roo in this thread. Search for their posts.

From the website:
"...If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply."

NB: There have been differing interpretations of this provision.

ISTR Red Roo clarified the correct interpretation. Best to check that reply.

What would happen if I kept the existing booking but didn't fly the outbound flight but just the return flight and booked a separate outbound flight? Would that work?

Do you mean that you would not use the original booking, for one of the legs?
If so, you will earn no SCs for that leg.
If I book Flex Y earning standard SCs then I would get the same SCs as booking discount Y with DSC so that would be O.K. so long as the return flight from the original booking still earns DSC if I don't fly the outbound leg.

Other option would be to book another discount Y return trip and do both sets of flights.

Nope. If you dont fly the outbound leg, the whole ticket will be cancelled.

I'm not too sure about this for domestic from recent experience. Booked a same day return, ended up not flying the outbound leg but was fine with the inbound. I had already checked in and had both boarding passes, maybe that helped but I didn't get the impression after speaking to a couple of Qantas staff before both the outbound and return flights that no show on the first leg was going to cancel the second for this booking and I specifically asked on both occasions as I was concerned about it.

If your flights are domestic maybe check in for both and call to say you have a problem and can't fly the first but will definitely make the second flight?

That's because there are no QF domestic "return" fares. Fares are calculated as one-way segments. It makes no difference if you miss an earlier segment. International segments are another story altogether.

Flew J today for flights that will earn double SC. On one of the flights as a NB I was in the front row with a free shadow I hadn't even requested.

Do let us know how you go when you decide to request a shadow.
Well I won't be a NB for quite a while now (if ever again) and don't usually fly J domestically. I now have PS status and that's before adding any DSCs.

You should be fine. Domestic flights are a series one way flights. Either call them before hand to let them know or wait until day of travel.

You can even ask to split bookings and leave return flight on original booking but you might be worried about the date changing.
