Trying to move my outbound leg QF SYD-BNE from 26 Dec to 1 Jan (due to COVID testing delays).

These fares are $99 one way. I noticed that when I try to change my flight to 31 Dec or before, then there is no change fee (given the $99 fare is the same as the one I booked). However, if I choose to change to a flight on 1 Jan and after, QF wants to charge an additional $40 (even though the fare is otherwise a $99 fare).

Anyone know why this is the case?

I reckon it's a sneaky cash grab as most people will just pay the extra.

I had the same problem so I called them and said I wanted to change dates. The phone agent processed it for me at the lower fare. I didn't mention the pricing issue.
