Two pilots have been hospitalised and a plane evacuated after reports of smoke in a coughpit at Canberra Airport.
Fifty passengers, including one child, were evacuated from the Qantas plane - believed to be a Dash 8 - while the pilot and co-pilot have been taken by ambulance to the Canberra Hospital for assessment.
ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service Intensive Care paramedics were called to the scene just after 12.30pm.
A spokeswoman for the airport referred questions to Qantas. She described the incident as a "textbook emergency procedure", but said she could not provide any further comment.

A spokeswoman for Airservices Australia could not confirm the airline or aircraft type, but said the passengers were evacuated without incident or injury.
Comment has been sought from Qantas.

Hmm, pilots hospitalised is a little bit of an over reach. I mean they could have gone to hospital to have a blood test to see if they were on something as post #2 suggests.

Pilots sent for medical assessment is possibly more accurate.

FYI, according to the ATSB report, it was a precautionary disembarkation, not a full-blown evacuation.

Mr O'Malley told of chaotic scenes as the plane touched down in Canberra, with passengers ordered to just "get out" with no chance to grab their belongings.

OMG, this would NEVER happen in LOTFAP - cabin baggage first, followed by women and children!!lol.

Yeah, dumb isn't it. Who'd have thought they would follow the procedures they run through prior to every flight taking off.

How long did the Q400 end up being out of service for? (assuming that it has now returned to carrying passengers).

My apologies. I'll rephrase the question.

How long did the Q300 end up inoperable for? Is it back carrying passengers?
