I don't know if I'm the only one, but I'm getting really annoyed with seat selection on QF11/12. I wish QF could find a way to display the seat maps for the JFK-LAX (747) and LAX-SYD (A380) segments in MMB. I have a few upcoming flights to JFK and it seems that even for QF reservations agents it's not easy to select seats. I've mentioned this many times to the agents when calling QF and some of them have told me that QF has been working on a solution for this, but apparently it's not working.

For example, I had bought a Y exit row seat for $180 and I lost the seat when QF changed the 747 configuration, it took the QF agent 40 minutes to find a way to give me the seat back because of the complexity of the dual seat map.

I wish airlines would just drop these stupid "direct" flights involving equipment change. What's so hard in just adding a flight number. This is not new, the same problem used to happen when QF107/108 two segments were flown by an A332 and a 747.

I just wish RedRoo sees this and maybe bring to the attention of QF how annoying this is and how much time QF employees are losing selecting seats while it could be done in MMB in 5 seconds.

Rant over...

I'll keep the rant alive! :p

Just made another 2 bookings SYD-JFK and again had to call QF to purchase Extra-Legroom seats. As usual it took forever on the phone because of the equipment change at LAX on QF12. When I logged into my booking on aa.com I could see that AA displays QF12 as 2 separated flights with the same flight number. So if AA can do that, maybe QF should be able to display QF12 as 2 flights in MMB.

For your reference RedRoo :p, it looks like this.

Yep super annoyed me.
I am booked on QF12 next year in J
Got seat 15K in the B744 which auto game me 15K on the A388 which isnt a great seat according to seat guru. Anyway had to call QF to get them to manually change that seat to something better but if i ever want to change it again i need to call them they said.

Agree. Really the solution would be to simply give the LAX-JFK and JFK-LAX completely separate flight numbers.

(Though perhaps there's a regulatory problem with this, as QF doesn't have rights to operate these as stand-alone domestic flights; just to carry their own international pax as extensions to existing international flights).

Good point. Then the simplest thing would be to display each segment in MMB with corresponding seat map.

I think I can see some mould on that bread!

Would mean more SCs for SYD-JFK pax? If so it's not going to happen.

As for the regulatory issue it doesn't affect pax originating in MEL or BNE. Unless there is a requirement for a single flight number for the whole trip then it should be a simple fix.

Actually under the current system (until November 30) JFK-SYD earns more SC than booking separate JFK-LAX and LAX-SYD flights. From December 1 both options will earn the same number of SC.

Completely agree with this thread. Recently did QF11 through to JFK (ex SY) and was unable to lodge an upgrade request to F for the first leg - despite calling the Plat line several times. Also lost my seat selection (in Emerald city) several times in the weeks leading up to the booking because of these issues. Very annoying overall. First world problems.

Actually had an equipment change on the QF11 leg of my recent trip MEL-LAX-JFK. When I checked in at MEL the LAX-JFK leg had a seat change from 5B to 4E.

I got a first class seat in an old configured 747. :) Very happy with that one.
