My guess and suggestion all along was that they should just downgraded it to a 737 rather than dropping it.

I agree, anything would be a positive. If they do, they need to schedule it so it doesn't leave at same time as the J* flights....an early afternoon departure with return later in the evening. But i think i'm getting ahead of myself....always wary about QF enhancements

I don't care if it's at the same time as JQ, or what the plane type is. Give me a decent J seat (angled is ok if there's space) and an arrival prior to 1800. I would prefer to arrive around midday so I have the rest of the day free and can do quick long weekends. Plus, it opens up a heap of connections without need for an overnight stay.

This is probably the only thing that would keep me with QF for next membership year (calendar year too, coincidentally). Otherwise it's goodbye EDR card and Citibank gets my non-amex pride of place, while BA will get the flight credits.

Do crew duty hours allow for outbound and return? Or will they need to overnight a crew in SIN?

This is the first time I've ever heard people asking for a 737 intl service! What's the flight time? I did HKT-PER on a VA 737 once and it was horrendous- never again.

I doubt crew hours would allow a same day return- it would be, what 4.5 hours flight time each way? With the turnaround it would be an 11+ hour day- I'm pretty sure the unions have ensured that won't happen.

If QF could make this work with a 737 I could quickly see it becoming double daily, then possibly triple.

And what an absolute load of muppets, the only thing stupider than cutting off all the services is doing a back flip 2 months later, makes them look totally incompetent and not really sure why any QF members would give them a benefit of the doubt or the WA public in general...

Another obvious reason Joyce, and his half-coughd crew he has surrounded himself with, need to be purged sooner than later out of the place...

Not wanting to ruin this parade because I think Perth deserves to have international services but a 737 would be the worst possible solution for someone like me.

I remember not that long ago the SIN-SYD specials routed via PER and to go direct was considerably more. I didn't mind doing SIN-PER on an A330 and waiting a few hours for PER-SYD flights.

A 737 SIN-PER would be torture.

ive done this also - the flights were ok but the terminal change in PER was a pain in the neck (hopefully that will change soon?).

i imagine they dont want to do it anymore as they had international cabin crew running the per-syd sector also...

They will start it up again and then can it due to low numbers, they have already killed the confidence in the Perth market, there wouldn't be confidence with them and why would you fly on a 737 when you can fly SQ, TG, MH, etc. in to Asia on wide bodies? There also would have to be connections through to Europe on OneWorld Partners.

Yep, they'd have you believe it was an ultra competitive market being flooded with capacity by lots of top notch airlines that they can't make a dime out of, so they take their bat and ball with them giving a figurative two finger salute to the people of WA on the way out, then 2 months later they have an epiphany that WA is actually important and then they come back in with a 737 service or a couple of days a week etc that will be a winner against 787s, 777s and A330s...

I mean its a text book example that I'm sure Harvard would consider using in how to completely bamboozle your competition and have adoring customers lining up around the block to use your service...

It sounds like marketing have received a lot of flack from customers who can't get to Asia easily. Obviously moving the flight forward in the day to go head to head with Jetstar was a stupid idea. and then go oh look not many people are choosing Qantas.
I think a 737 wouldn't be too bad as an interim solution, but I am surprised they didn't replace the JQ or 3K(Jetstar Asia A320 service with a brand new 787. and put the Qantas code on it. That way they would get enough passengers to fill it up, but also less chance of upsetting displaced passengers.
Also putting people onto Jetstar and offering luggage and a $10.00 food credit was a cheap way of showing our customers are stupid.
I also wonder whether originally customers were offered flights on MH and a lot of people have told Qantas that is no longer an option is now causing Qantas a rethink.
I think there are a few companies based in Perth who have an office in Singapore and now Qantas sales are seeing a lot of people are now deciding to go with Virgin on the Coast to Coast service and using SQ into Asia.
Qantas is slightly better to east but Virgin is usually a few dollars cheaper and the service is comparable.

Qantas are back on the Gold Coast so anything is possible.

Something out of the box, Adelaide-Perth-Singapore via international airports on a 737.

Also there may be pressure from some of codeshare partners that used to use the PER-SIN QF flight with their code, like BA from SIN and 9W from Delhi-SIN and Mumbai-SIN.

I'm a fan of QF and happy to see this service returns BUT I fail to see the incentive to fly on 737 to SIN unless it's an award booking or the paid fare is significantly cheaper then the competition. I recently had the "pleasure" to be on 737 PER-BNE in Y on a 100% full flight and it's not an experience I would like to repeat
Those who want to fly J will probably better off using LM on SQ or TG.

Just had a look at the config because I've never had to fly a QF 737. Wow, no way I'd pay for J unless it was significantly cheaper than the competition and not much more than Y. It would have to be more comfortable than JQ, but I'll take MH or SQ instead.
