I'm looking at a classic award MEL - ZQN, QF don't do it direct, only JQ. At 14,400 points it's not bad value and It looks like i get 20kg of checked luggage as part of it. But since I'll need to take my snowboard I'll need more than 20kg. On QF this would be fine as my WP would cover it, but does anyone know the deal on a QF Classic award JQ flight?

I don't think i'll get anymore luggage for my QF status? Can i buy more before i get to the airport? if so who do i buy it from? QF or JQ?

Thanks.

When you make the booking, attempt to find the JQ booking reference and you'll have to pre-purchase the baggage through the phone. Don't do it at the airport otherwise it will cost alot more. Even try the jetstar website to prepurchase, may work these days?

You should be able to buy it pre departure online.

If you need to add baggage after you have made your booking, this can be added for a higher fee through My Jetstar online or by calling Jetstar Reservations.

Thanks... so it sounds like JQ (phone or website) will reconise I have 20KG free and allow me to add more? have you done this before?

Similar thing happened to me yesterday. I booked a Classic Award flight on JQ15/16 CNS/KIX and while the eTicket doesn't mention baggage the Qantas Your Flights section of the Booking Reference page showed 20kg baggage allowance.

Also showed the Jetstar booking ref so I wandered over to see if I could allocate seats. I notice on the Jetstar booking that I currently have no baggage allowance and would I like to pay $43 each way for a 20kg bag. Live Chat operator agrees that I have no baggage on the ticket and it's probably a Qantas problem.

I'm about to ring Qantas and see what the story is.

It's disappointing to see that MEL ZQN services have been moved to JQ only. It used to be a once a week flight with QF.

Still the case with BNE (Wed) and SYD (Wed, Sat, Sun). I'd try connect and get onto one of those services tbh.

As an aside, can't work out why Qantas moves routes like HTI and ZQN to JQ, when they're both very expensive places to go, and surely fit in with a premium full cost airline more so than a budget one.

Looks like it has sorted itself out.The Jetstar Booking page now shows 20kg checked baggage.

According to JQ Communications Manager "Baggage is included on QF codeshare (JQ metal)".

According to real-world experience checking in at ZQN on a QF J Award Flight (ZQN-AKL-BNE-CNS) - baggage is not included and you have to pay.

According to QF Customer Care - baggage is not included and you have to pay.

According to conversations with QF check-in staff - you have to pay.

YMMV

dfcatch, I guess I'll have to take a copy of the booking page and a empty credit card to the gate then. This seems like a simple problem. Why do they make it so hard.

Hi ferni

Your Qantas status offers you addional baggage allowance on Qantas marketed and operated flights only.

While you're certainly permitted 20kgs as free checked baggage allowance on this itineray, additional baggage must be purchased with Jetstar diectly.

As markis10 suggested, please contact JQ to discuss your options in how best to arrange this.

Red Roo,

Thanks for confirming this :)

Glad QF has sorted that out. Just hope the ZQN JQ agents got the memo ;)

If I can jump on this thread with a related issue. As with the OP, I have booked a classic award flight on Jetstar (DRW-SYD). Under Manage Your Booking on the QF site, it clearly shows a checked baggage allowance of 20kgs (in line with the complimentary checked baggage allowance referred to at this link). Unfortunately the e-ticket makes no mention of any included baggage, and when I check the booking on the Jetstar site, it shows the booking as having no baggage included (and offers the opportunity to purchase). Can I have confidence that Jetstar will honour the terms of the Classic Award? Is there anything I should do to ensure that I don't get stuck having to pay for baggage? Thanks.

Takes a couple of days to come through - this is a classic QF booking HBA to SYD.

i also like the seat selection is 0.00 for upfront and standard..

Thanks for that - I'll keep an eye on it.

I saw that (exit row seating as well) - I've selected 1A. Hope it sticks.

On our JQ15/16 CNS/KIK/CNS Qantas award tickets the 20kg allowance was valid and was no problem as was the free Emergency Row seat selection.

Also maybe something haoppened on 1 July but I purchaed one meal each way for my mother and on the outward leg she was fed and I didn't eat but on the homeward leg on the 8th July we all got a meal.

And the Jetstar iPad is not very good value at all. The movies are rubbish as are the TV and music selections. Waste of time and money.
