Hi,

I got this promo in my email a few days ago.
I find it quite attractive, as I'm about to travel next month, I might load A$1,000 and the same for my wife and that's 6k points right there.
2k spend for 6k points seems pretty good to me.

Just wondering how does QF cash work exactly ?

Do you use it to pay just like you would a credit card ? Or does it work like an ATM card and you use it at ATMs globally to withdraw pre-loaded currencies ?
How do you even load money onto it ?

Thanks

There's a thread on the QCC down the page a bit with a fair bit of information. I've never used the cash card facility. The general view was that they are expensive points but if you have the use for the card, then it's probably worth it for you.

The goss is not to load Aud$, *(directly)* but to go into your QCC and put in your "needed" forex currency, and then do load it from within QCC's forex section, in foreign currency rather than Aud$ itself.
Don't do bank transfer either.
QCC's forex rates might be skewed towards QCC gaining a bit rather than a public market rate.
LTL is correct.
Edit: You can use QCC as a credit card, or as an ATM card, its up to you.
Some places have said my QCC has been declined by the bank, and then the card becomes useless, every other transaction is declined.
I have also had good times, where I present the next QCC ie up this time a SG card, PS got declined, SG card wored a treat.
A lot of hotels will put on a credit card surcharge, and can take a very long time to refund card authorisastions at hotels.
Its been said on here, to present another card for the hotel to take a hold of, and then use QCC to pay on checkout of the hotel.

And there in lies the problem.

Loading foreign currency on the card is going to cost 3%-4% which negates the bonus points offered.

Cost me $35 (or rather, I loaded AUD$1000 equivalent of USD and a quick Google after the transfer said I now had AUD$965 worth of the currency). That said, I have a fairly large USD purchase coming up thanks to the Pebble Time, so it was a lucky email and will be a bonus 3k points to me. Even better if the Aussie dollar slips :p

Was just wondering whether it is worth loading USD and then cashing back out for the points. $35 fpr 3000 points would suggest not...unless of course currency fluctuations are in my favour and I hold for a few weeks. Might be worth a punt dependant on whether the RBA moves again next month.

I'd say not, but depends how you can earn really. If I could apply for a CC I see a 70k point offer on Qantas.com right now... but I can't so 3k points is what I'll take.

Had a reminder email about this yesterday. Not interested in buying QFF points at an inflated foreign exchange rate.

I got the nag email too which inspired me to properly activate it - they said it was activated but I never got a password so had to get another. I was about to transfer some dough but thought I'd check in here to see if it's worthwhile. I couldn't remember if it had to be foreign currency - if it was only $A it's a no-brainer but as JohnK says they burn you on the rate (and probably again when you spend it one way or another) so the points have a high price. That said I'm hardly earning any QFF points by flying these days so I might need to grab what I can (including a new credit card) to keep the ball rolling.

I think I have mucked it up. I loaded $ 1,000 AUD. Should have read it properly I guess.
do they send statements to confirm the balance on the card ?

It's all online, but you can get a statement to print if necessary.

From what you've posted, it certainly sound like you mucked it up, as you need AUD$1000-worth in a foreign currency to be loaded... but it's no loss to you as you can cash out back to your account or spend it if you like.
