Most of my flying is Mon-Fri. Any weekend travel is usually pretty local domestically. more often than not with an upgrade (with Mrs BD in tow that's de rigueur!) - or a fully fledged International leg. Consequently I don't often come across QF Domestic Buy on Board.

That changed a couple of weekends ago on a Saturday MEL-CNS followed by CNS-SYD last Saturday. I fully expected to have to buy alcohol and consequently offered up my cc for the purchase. QF only accept cash for their BoB ... are we living in the late 20-teens ??? So I reached back for my wallet only to realise that I had no cash on my (apart from about $3 in change). So, QF missed out on my $6 contribution to their bottom line (in truth it probably would have been closer to $18 by the time we arrived in CNS ... significant birthday to be celebrated!).

For the CNS-SYD I was prepared. The Y Supervisor was a superb passenger-centric individual and we got chatting about the missed revenue opportunity - plus the additional overhead of cash-handling etc (in between my providing AFL GF score updates). Seems it's all down to cost cutting. QF management simply won't shell-out for the machines which they'll gladly cover for International DF Sales. Worse: the Y Supervisors are expected to have full responsibility for the cash including having to take home at the end of the shift and deposit with the company at the start of their next weekday roster.

I found it astounding that in this day-and age a company which implemented the 6kg bag limit due to OHS issues (do any of us buy the "trial" line?) can implement such a cash-risk issue, let alone let any revenue stream possibility pass it by. Just me??

Regards,

BD

If you printed out a list of all the silly decisions Qantas makes, you'd end up with a book bigger than a copy of the Yellow Pages from the 1990s.
