Qf/ba Pe Product,worth The Money?

Dont know about BA WT+ but I would be hesitant about wasting money on the QF PE. Flew SYD-BKK in November and decided to try out PE, seat ok, cabin service was good but the meal was slop in a bigger tray. Two of us were travelling together and we asked for opposite aisle seats at check in, to be told sorry its full, on board however, there was us, and 5 other people. Qantas has REALLY gone downhill.

I have to say the same about PE.

The meal was worse than anything I've ever had in economy in the last 10 years - the main course was bordering on inedible, and I am not a fussy eater. Hopefully it is not representative of QF PE meals but it was certainly unimpressive and put me off somewhat.

I also found that the seat did not suit my body shape and found it to be just as uncomfortable as economy class, just in a different way.

So, for the price difference, I decided that I'd sooner have the exit row aisle seat in economy than a normal PE seat.

I'm flying WT+ on BA soon so I'll get to make up my mind about that, but I have the suspicion that I will find it not worth it. I only booked one way WT+ in case I don't like it.

There are going to be times when things are not 100% to people's liking, in fact probably most flights people take you will find at least 1 experience that was not to one's satisfaction. On the subject of QF PE class, I have flown this class 5 times now and actually think it is worth the value if you secure the Saver fares as opposed to the Flex fares. More leg room (unless you get an exit row in Y), bigger TV, more recline are all benefits. If you think QF seats are uncomfortable then there are other airlines to choose. Food IMO is equal to Y class, just served in better trays etc. I have sat in the middle of the 4 in PE and found it comfortable and I never sit in a middle seat ever in Y.

I think all to one's taste but a fair assessment would require more than 1 flight in the class IMO.

think you may have had a bad one off - i have flown 3 times now and the meal was fine! think it is a good product - especially if you can pick it up on special :D

also - if anyone is an MBF member - you get 10% off BA Economy and Economy + fares - as an ongoing benefit :p

As I said earlier in the thread I booked Qantas PE at BA codeshare prices for October so I shall be very interested to see what it's like, will post a trip report when I get back.:)

Booked today, QF Codeshare w/BA for Brisbane - London - Stockholm, 4 day trip in early April. QF online was $5500+, QF Codeshare on BA online was $4600+

Thinking about these sorts of fares, what do people think about all the way in Y+ vs Y(Oz->Asia)/J(Asia->Europe)?

The mixed fares seem to be comparable to Y+ fares (eg at the moment Y->Asia on various carriers, J-> Europe on Swiss currently quoted at $4329++) which is similar to that Brisbane Flyer quoted in Y+.

Interested - which is better? I guess FF points are one factor, I know for the same price I'd prefer Y/J combo than Y+.

I think the mixed fares would be the better bet.

But isn't that a huge amount to pay for a relatively few hours in the air?

I can (and will) fly LHR-SYD-LHR in C class on UA (albeit using an upgrade cert) for GBP 619. Makes you cringe a bit, doesn't it? Unless you have received a bonus from AIG, maybe.

That really is taking the long way round. I imagine you will be flying LHR-JFK-LAX-SYD-LAX-JFK-LHR.

While the price is great this is a lot connections when it could be done with one short stop and the same plane the whole way to SYD.

Still I enjoy a crazy routing as much as the next lad so if you can get the new UA business product then knock yourself out.

If you like Y/J then some good deal on CX right now. A bit convoluted, but basically get to INC (Seoul) via HKG in Y, then J to EU from there. Its about 2.8k for the J, and 1.2k for the Y. So 4k all in, which is better than the Star mixed fares.

I did SIN-LHR-Canada in BA WT+ in 2007. That's pre QF PE to the states.

This was worth about 30K Qpoints on AA. In other words a long way to PLT renewal. Add the 3.5K miles each way to/from SYD and that's worth 40K Qpoints and about 50K redeemable miles on AA.

At the time the cost ex SIN was quite reasonable. 1 segment Opup.

YMMV
