QF Awards to LAX

Trying to get 4 seats in a prem cabin with QFF is not the easiest of tasks. I've taken the family on some wacky routes to ensure the best ROI for using the points & a holiday we actually want - lucky we all like flying.

In my case only 2 of us.

Have been reading the AFF help for you and your mini-me to get to Los Angeles. Moving 6 is quite close to the ultimate brain teaser and could only be topped by those with larger families. Our AFF community have come up with some good options.
Are you planning to be in Los Angeles for a while or is it a starting point for a Chevy Chase style of going to Wally World?

A bit Chevy Chase We are stopping in LAX for a little while then driving to LAS and do Grand Canyon etc.
Then heading to the east coast for Christmas, New Year plan to be away until end Jan all up.
Plans all flexible at this stage dependent on flights.

Ok an update :
All booked for the outbound trip Dec 2013
Same day :
2 x J seats QF 107
2 x J seats QF 11

Myself and mini-me leaving 3 days earlier 2 x JASA's SYD-MEL-HKG then 2 x AA F MilesAAvers
HKG-NRT-xLAX-MIA
2 night stopover at The Conrad :mrgreen: before the CX/AA flights and we arrive in LAX 24 hours before the rest of the family.

Now to replicate it all on the way back

We are all booked now.
Two months in the USA Early Dec arriving back late Jan
SYD-LAX-MIA-JFK-YVR-HKG-SYD
Variety of awards. Will be flying QF, CX, JL, and AA
280K One World , JASA's, AA F and J MilesAAvers and even managed to throw in a KUPP.

I suppose I'll have to write my inaugural Trip Report

Well done, sounds like a great trip and a great excuse for a TR. I sometimes have trouble finding award availability for myself, so I applaud you for arranging all of this for six.

No, managed to get them online
I've spent a small fortune on calls to AA though as I've never got my head around Skype

Good catch! I got 4x J seats on Oz (same plane) using Avianca Lifemiles Sfo-Icn-Syd in late Jan 2014. I could only get 5x Y seats on the same plane on QF Syd-Mel-Lax in Y in early Jan (a lot of carriers seem to block this period for award redemptions)....looking to see if any J opens up bet Syd and lax, but I probably don't want to use all my points up for 5x J awards!!)

No!!!.....all calls on Skype to US 1800 numbers are free......we could have given you a step to step description on how to download and install Skype!!!

Well done on the OZ booking I was very impressed by them last year, good to know they are available on LM.

Bumpity bump
Just reviving my own thread here, I'm going to update our itinerary as soon as I can.
Pretty chuffed today as I managed to score 2 x J class seats on LAX-MIA (3 class aircraft) so we are now all travelling transcon on the same day
I called the QF plat desk and slotted them into the 280K one world awards for Shrek and son. Previously no availability on same and they didn't want to travel in Y.
Interestingly the agent said as both bookings had a few thousand miles to play with we could add other sectors if they became available as long as the change points fee was paid
