Just playing around with the QF award booking engine. The only awards to DPS out of MEL I find are the J* flights connecting in SYD.

I believe CX also has flights from HKG to DPS? Is there a reason why I can't chose to go MEL-HKG-DPS instead of flying J*? Maybe a rule I am unaware of perhaps?

Or is it just a case of not being available online and that I should be able to book them over the phone..

thoughts welcome..:?:

I thought CX bookings needed to be done over the phone and has been this way for a while. Every so often they pop up online briefly though.

An alternative would be to get a booking on SIN on QF, and pay for flight to DPS on QR, KL or SQ. If you can wait until after 30 Oct to book, you may even be able to get a single redemption on QF to SIN and then on QR to DPS, as it 1:25 between flights which should be OK on a single redemption. Another option worth looking at is using MH via KUL.

Do it as an multi city trip and it will show the CX availability

MEL-HKG
HKG-DPS

Thanks for your response!

I hope they load QR online on the 30th and we will see if this option becomes available online but for some reason I doubt it. MH still isn't available online. Do you know where I can check award availability for MH online?

This flight will hopefully be part of a OW RTW 280k J award so I only want to use OW carriers (MH, CX, QR is fine also as it will be after they join)

Guess I'll have to call the helpdesk and ask if they can see availability with CX or MH

Unless you're doing it as a oneworld award, flying CX to DPS is poor value at 50,000 points one way in economy.

I am able to see CX flights available online on various routes such as JNB-HKG, MLE-HKG, MEL-HKG etc..

MEL-HKG

I think that would eat into one of the 5 stops I am allowed as part of a Oneworld RTW award? Maybe someone can clarify as I am unsure
