Hi all

Have been looking at various J Class rewards for return one way from LHR to MEL and have found several options using both QF, CX or a combination of both.

QF Charges one way are Pounds Sterling 552.95 per passenger

CX Charges one way are Pounds Sterling 197.95 per passenger which is 65% less than the QF Charges Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Combining CX and QF flights Charges one way are pounds sterling 197.95 per passenger.

I know there has been many discussions on this but what an absolute rip off ..............

Yes I understand that since simpler and fairer redemption costs have gone up in terms of points, still does not in my eyes justify the huge diffeences.

Speaking to customer care it is purely because QF still charge Fuel Fines on award flights.

Whilst I understand that QF are unlikely to make changes to this perhaps it is time that a petition or something similar was produced and forwarded to AJ to show how peeved off many of the customers are with this unfair fuel fine.

Rant Over .............. :D

Whilst I certainly agree with you Ansett, I doubt that QF will do anything but rake in the bucks.
Why not just take the CX option?

Very simple reason for this (both the CX and the combined CX and QF charges being 197 pounds) is that fuel surcharges are regulated for flights that arrive in or depart from Hong Kong. The amount that an airline can charge changes every month with the fuel price and are currently set at zero. So what you are seeing is nearly all UK taxes.

CX appears to have dropped fuel surcharges outright from award tickets as of 1 Feb 2016: Travel Advisories | Fuel Surcharge Updates - Cathay Pacific

If only our Government had balls like that :D

Spot on Ansett, something needs to be done about this.

Be nice if the media took up the cause to stop us from being ripped off out of OZ with award seat overcharges. The thread posts should continue.

Would be interested to see the comparison for cities in Europe as premium awards ex the UK have the highest charges.

If you must fly ex LHR, as Buzz said "fly CX."

Now look at how many Asia miles you need for a redemption on QF compared to the number of QFF points required

You'll discover Asia Miles are far more valuable than QFF points

Considering the credit cards that do 1:1 to Asia Miles I'd consider it a no brainier to stop collecting QF points

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I guess the lack of will to change QF's attitude is down to a number of things... apathy (Aussies seem willing to pay the 'Australia tax'); clever marketing by QF... they bundle fuel surcharges as 'carrier charges' making it almost look like a legitimate tax; clever marketing #2... wait long enough and the public will forget why you introduced the charges in the first place; no champions for change... QF reads this site but has decided to make no comment, hoping #2 happens... that it all goes away.

I have indeed booked the CX flights despite being 139000 points compared to QF at 128000 the extra cash component required by Qantas killed it for me and out of principle I will avoid redeeming on QF when and where possible. Looking forward to a 4 hour lay over in HKG and the Pier F Lounge :D

Why stop at one lounge when you can visit 5?

Edit: the bill for 5 lounge visits could well exceed taxes in certain circumstances :p

They have to hand them in when they join the CL.

Interestingly enough many public servants are these not allowed to accept anything that may be considered a bribe. This includes say lunches/ dinners.

And yet the "Top Brass" allow themselves to accept a major perk like the CL.

Not many AM earning cards inAustralia though. And miles expire after 3 years.

Some bookings are also flagged to not be upgraded to F etc.

Now there is an incentive to show QF how peed off people are with the Charges. Go to as many lounges as possible when travelling even if only to use the loo LOL :D

Who pays for lounge access if a QF SG etc accesses a non QF lounge flying a third party airline (or if on a fourth party's award ticket)?
