QF and US Airways

hi there,

i am flying with US Airways next week from PIT to LAX. i seem to recall that they are listed in the back of the Qantas inflight Mag as some sort of partner to QF ...

can someone set me straight on this? i am mainly interested in whether i can wait in a US Airways lounge in Pittsburgh before i leave (i am on QF 176 J Class later that evening also). i also am wondering if their baggage systems are linked?

i don't really care about the about SC's or points ...

There a partner airline but I dont know if you can use their lounge?

When departing on a US Airways flight (operated and coded), a Qantas Club member can visit the US Airways lounge. Note that Qantas Gold and Platinum FF members are provided complementary Qantas Club membership as part of the benefits of their FF status, so may also visit the US Airways Lounge when flying with US Airways.

The strange twist to this is that if you were on a US Airways operated flight with a QF codesahre flight number, you would not be entitled to lounge access.

You will also earn QF FF points for the US Airways flight, but no SCs if using the US Airways flight number.

Yes travelled with US Airways (DCA-MCO) two weeks ago and I can confirm that if you are Qantas Club flying US Airways -

1. You get QFF Points
2. You DONT get SC
3. You can access the US Airways Lounge and bring a guest

This applies if you are flying on a US Airways flight (operated & coded).

Given the services available in most airline lounges in the USA (at least those for domestic passengers), I'd take the points.

I can't speak for the other US Airways Lounges but DCA had free -

- Fruits, nuts and other small snacks
- Tea & coffee
- Soft drinks & juices
- Local calls
- Wireless internet access


For purchase -

- Alcoholic beverages
- Sandwitches & rolls

Their chairs were very comfortable and bathrooms very clean. I must say that their lounge was much better than the Qantas Business lounge at LAX (which is now being redeveloped).

I assume you are referring to the TBI lounge. That one has been identified as a poor example of a QF lounge for several years, partly due the way the tenancy is handled at LAX and partly because the renovations were originally supposed to start a long time ago.

But at least they have free self-serve booze, so no need to tip the bar tender for doing what I am happy to do myself (poor a drink).

For me, when flying internally in the USA lounge access is more important. Anything is better than waiting in the very small gate lounges that have no seats ...

i have a 1M FFPs and enough SC's to keep me WP for the next couple of years.

Just another thought I had on this. If you are QC member (or FF Gold/Plat), and are booked in on a US Airways coded and operated flight, however, post the points to say, United MileagePlus instead of Qantas, are you still allowed US Airways lounge access?

Why not it is the actual card that gives you access. I have used a different FFP (Thai ROP) and shown the QP Card and they have let me in.

Yes, you would be entitled to lounge access.
