F menu apart from one flight where my friend didn't eat as he avoids plane food.

Interesting data point

May I ask if you're CL by any chance ?

Many had reported unsuccessful requests similar to yours.

Certainly, SQ declined mine.

Must admit that on the flights where I've been luxuriating in F, with partner in J, I've never been cheeky enough to ask for him to join me for dinner. A glass of F bubbles is the most I've ever gently suggested and have never been knocked back on that one. Maybe I'm not "adventurous" enough but an F dinner upgrade request seems - to me - to be a step too far. :)

Same thought here

I padded my SQ request saying that J meal could be served (other pax was in J) to avoid any inference that F resources would be abused.

But, 'sorry Sir' was the courteous reply.

Yes, I think that's quite an acceptable response, too.
Mind you, I should have completed the picture by saying that, in most cases when we are booked in different cabins, we will also register a points upgrade request and have a pretty good record of success, probably influenced by the combination of one P1 and one former P1 now Plat. So it isn't all the "misery" of long haul J. :)
[Are we not a spoilt bunch? :p]
