QF A380 F question

Well rightly or wrongly my friend got the impression that on one leg the service was great, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the FA. On the other a different FA was very poor. I guess it could have just been a crew member having a bad day.

I prefer 2A , but that's just me.

Haven't sat in 2A, but I'm also not a fan of 1A.

I've had 1A, 3A, and 5A a few times. I prefer 5A, and 3A as they're a bit more open (I don't like staring at a wall for 14 hours).

My objective was to observe the takeoff and landing - the most exciting parts of the flight for this 29yo kid! :)

It's a nice spot to observe takeoff and landing. Here's a really bad video I took a few months back: https://goo.gl/photos/XukAh9cb2QhWA8Ef9 :)

I flew LHR-MEL in QF F last year and was in seat 1K.

There are a few times you might notice people moving past you but no ones making much of a disturbance and it never really bothered me.

No issue at all for me with 1A on QF93 last year. Found it very private which suited perfectly. No noticeable noise or foot traffic issues either. Just shows that everyone has different preferences for any number of different reasons.

I prefer 2A after trying 1A a few times, but the only problems I had were very picky little things (cupboard opposite for e.g.). Mr FM really likes 1A and has no problems so was happy to give it to him. Generally I would take A side in preference to F and K. For awhile Mr FM and I were experimenting with 1A and 1K but he said service was much slower on the K side (getting pyjamas, getting orders taken).

Thanks Sean. Your footage is steadier than many other videos on youtube! :) I quite like how you've included the TV screen and the view outside although it seems the camera struggled with the exposure. Was there another window on your left or just the two as seen in your video (ignoring the two behind the screen).

Just arrived home yesterday from our trip to NYC.

On QF11 SYD-LAX I had 1A and SO had 4A - I picked 4A so she had 3 windows. As has been mentioned, you are located quite a distance from the window - though you could perch on the ottoman to be closer to the window post take-off. I enjoyed 1A and slept quite well. There is some traffic on boarding and early part of the flight where the closet is being used to store the clothes of pax after changing into pyjamas - likewise pre-landing. We found 1A to be good when we wanted to dine together as the ottoman was "enclosed" and you were not positioned next to the pax in the "suite" in front. One complaint I had was there seemed to be a little more heat coming from under the seat when I was sleeping - did not encounter that in 5F on the way back (maybe the IFE hardware was a bit overactive?)

On QF12 LAX-SYD we forgot to book our seats and were allocated 5A and 5F. SO was happy with 5A and slept most of the way back - waking to grab a fruit salad and the fabled steak sandwich - then back to sleep. I had swapped with SO so I got 5F. Other than the possible issue with having to share the overhead bin with 5K I would be very happy to get 5F again - I actually used the overhead bin for 5A since SO was there. What I personally liked about 5F was the addition air vent beside me which is great since I tend to get too hot on planes. Having said that I noticed the cabin was much cooler this trip. And I just switched to the tail camera when coming in to land - couldn't see much at night when taking off.

Honestly the noise and traffic from other pax was never an issue on either legs. What I did notice was lights - more so when you had other pax who preferred to watch something instead of sleeping. On the LAX-SYD leg there were a couple of blokes who decided to dine together and it got quite noisy. They were in 2K and 3K - and dining in 3K...first world problem. Service was impeccable and amazing all the way - no issues whatsoever. The bottomless wine-glass got the better of me on the SYD-LAX leg and I struggled to make it past the main meal of the degustation experience - we had to continue with dessert after I woke up (I suspect the Chivas Regal Ultis coughtails recommended by the bartender in the lounge helped/hindered as well).

Great to hear the positive experiences. Given the mixed reports about the QF F services, I'm a little nervous that I may get a bad crew, which would be a disaster considering how long I've been planning this trip.

You've reminded me of another question - do you have individual air vents? Are those two silver things (one next to your head and one facing you) vents or lights? I too tend to find aircraft too hot and usually sleep with the air vents open to the max, unless you're in a CX A350, where there's no vents and you just cook... :)

I have to say I am yet to encounter poor service on QF International legs - both in J and F (being only this last trip and they were exemplary). I could have been really lucky so far...then again I also believe in what goes around comes around so am always friendly and polite with the crew.

Hmmm...looks like I may have been mistaken about the extra vent for 5F. Yes the two silver things (one next to your head and one facing you) are air vents. IIRC the airflow was weak in 1A but was definitely nice and strong in 5F. The other silver thing to the side of the one in front of you is the dining light. Again memory may be skewed but it seemed warmer in 1A (remember I had a number of Ultis coughtails in the lounge, plus quite a few reds, and the obligatory champers on board) then 5F (not one drop of alcohol).

I'm not sure I am qualified to comment having not flown QF F for a couple of years, but I will say that in my 40 F sectors on the A380 the FA's were excellent. The lack of a dry martini was overcome by taking my martini kit on board and having some sport with the bemused FA's wondering why I was ordering 90 ml of gin, 15 ml of dry vermouth and ice, all in separate glasses.

Ultimately it is the crew that will make an F flight a great experience or not.

Just the two.

4A gets an extra window if memory serves correctly, but 3A where I took that from only has two :)

Was filmed with my phone so yes there were some exposure issues (and it probably would have been more steady if I wasn't about 7 glasses of champagne in at that point :D)

And yep the quality of my footage tends to deteriorate as the champagne flows... :) I recall making a video for my first ever EK F flight (trans-tasman) and the landing footage including more roof and floor footage than the view outside the the window... I'm going to be a disaster after a 24hr flight on QF1! :D
