QF 787 MEL-LAX 15DEC inaugural - anyone booked on it?

Has anyone booked on the MEL-LAX 787 first flight? The fares seemed very high...hopefully they come down a bit.

Fares are always very high this far out. It's generally best to wait perhaps a few months or so for decent fares. Keep a look out for fares coming down perhaps checking every few days or so.

Though if a flight is popular there might never be seats available at a decent price.

Im not in a rush to book 15hr flight just to be on the first one. Id rather go when i need / want to. Remember too they commence during peak time / school holidays so don't expect anything too special re cheap fares

Decided to give it a miss and booked a couple of J and F seats to DFW instead.

Well, prices do seem to have come down to "reasonable" levels on the inaugural 787 flight, at least in Y and Y+. Still slightly more expensive than QF93 on the same day, but not overly so.

J prices are still high, but I expect that they will remain so as most of those seats will probably be filled by media.

Not for me at this point. The flight is under inventory control as well (if you look at the days after it's much more open but buckets are restricted on the inaug - due to space for VIP's, media etc no doubt).

I'm not inspired because a) the 789 is hardly a new product, and even on board the J suites are known, it's not anything new there and b) the date may slip for any number of reasons. I'm keeping an eye on it but not holding my breath.

I have not been infected by the hype (new paintjob, new aircraft is that it, extra 1 inch leg room but less elbow room in economy, new J suite).
I understand that there may be some celebrities and media on board. Not my usual social circle.

What will pique my interest re 787?. Nothing, its just another aircraft.

Anyway Ive got F awards on QF93 the day prior.

I'll be on board the inaugural flight and am looking forward to the commotion as I've never been involved with an inaugural flight before. J was quiet expensive so will be stuck in PE and am keen to see what AJ meant when he described it as "revolutionary"...

I wouldn't mind chasing a domestic flight but suspect it will be hard as NZ just subbed he aircraft in here and there initially as I suspect QF will. Keen to try Y and PE domestic or TT.

This is exactly it. It is very likely that sectors will be swapped in and out at the last minute due to any number of issues. While the 789 is a fairly settled in product as an airframe, and JQ has plenty of experience(and I suspect QF will have some of those folks on board to assist) they will still have crew training requirements and the like.

To me it's akin to the 332 J suite entry to service - You'd thiunk you'd have it and then nope, subbed out (or even subbed IN as a surprise!)

It is also possible, but less likely, that the 15/12 MEL-LAX may also slip for one reason or another - specially if QF will only have 1 or 2 airframes by Dec.

I was a bit nervous about this but I figure they'll probably make a bit of a media event out of it (we all know 789s are nothing special, but everyone else seems to think it's something new) therefore I'm sure they'll work hard to make sure they launch on that day. I wouldn't be surprised if my return flight is subbed to something else, though.

It's nothing to get excited about - the J product is not new, there's no F, and why would anyone get excited about flying Y?
