My son is visiting from DFW in late November on QF 8 and Qf 7 for 10 days, he is wondering if he should pay for exit row seat or chance his luck with an empty row at the back of the plane. Does anyone have any idea if this time of year the flights are lightly full esp now with the A 380.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Exit row guarantees extra legroom BUT because the IFE unit is in the armrest, if you are lucky enough to have a spare seat next you, you cant spread out.

Any other row you can get extra width by raising armrest if the seat next to you is empty.

Also it used to be that they didnt sell all the seats on the DFW-SYD/MEL leg due to weight restrictions, and often had offers a week or so out to pay a small extra fee to get the middle block of 4 seats all to yourself (poor mans lay flat bed). Not sure if this is still the case.
