Hoping helpful folks here can confirm what I think I already know.

I have an upcoming classic reward redemption on BA16 (SYD-SIN) then BA12 (SIN-LHR) in Y, however as I'm only Silver (Ruby), I assume my Qantas Club membership wont get me access to a lounge in Sydney or Singapore as there is no QF flight number for these flights?

As its peak period, doubtful that any J Classic Rewards will become available, but I am periodically checking just in case.

I know im fine on the return leg as they are Qantas flights, therefore Qantas Club will get me into the lounges in Heathrow and Perth on the way home.

Yep. Qantas club grants no access unless on a QF or JQ flight. So BA is a no go for lounges.

Yet flying BA in J would get me access to the Sydney Qantas lounge! Oh well guess i'll be slumming it for the first time in over a decade, as have always had QF lounge passes or QC and usually fly Qantas metal long haul.

If you can upgrade the longer BA12 go for it. Will mean lounge access for both flight's and possibly arrivals lounge access.

Two totally separate benefits.

1. Qantas Club is a purchased access benefit specific to (mostly) Qantas Group flights.

2. Business Class access is a oneworld benefit across all member lounges based on class of travel.

Simples!

Regards,

BD

You should post your details in the Lounge meets thread - you may get lucky.

I assume you don’t have Lounge access via a CC ?

Yes i have both Qantas Club membership and lounge passes to Qantas club on 3 credit cards, same problem.

I forgot about the Amex lounge, I can use the one lounge in Sydney, although likely packed in school holidays given ease of access. Is tbere also one in Singapore?

That’s one more Lounge then you were expecting:) I don’t know if there is an AMEX Lounge in SIN but it shouldn’t be too hard to find out

Yep, takes a QF flight number on your ticket to get you in. Pity the rewards flights don't have a QF number.

Thanks everyone.

Yes seems unfair that reward flights booked through Qantas site dont have QF flight numbers, i will take more care in future, then again plan is for future redemptions to be J anyway.

Unfortunately Qantas is just facilitating your booking on a oneworld carrier and that's where the responsibility ends. Almost all award bookings carry the operating flight number even if a codeshare flight number of the carrier through which you made the booking exists.

I'd go for the Amex lounge in SYD. It's a decent space with some good views, especially if an aircraft is parked at the stand immediately outside.

There are plenty of pay-per-use lounges in Singapore that you can use. The Qantas Lounge isn't one, but there are many others.

Are there any exceptions to this? I was under the impression that all awards booked on flights not operated by Qantas would carry the operating airline's flight number.

Unsure. There’s probably some award scheme somewhere where you can do this. I’ve never seen it for QF FF though.
