Qatar coronavirus cases exceed 100,000
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Qatar has exceeded 100,000 and Kuwait surpassed 50,000 on Monday (local time), their health ministries said.

Qatar, which has seen its daily case numbers fall from a peak of 2,355 in late May, added 546 new cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours to give a total of 133 deaths and 100,345 cases.

Qatar has seen COVID-19 spread among low-income migrant workers living in crowded quarters over the past few months.

Would this impact your decision to fly QR if you had a necessary reason to travel abroad right now?

For a country of population 2.7m.

Would be like Australia being at near 1m.

Qatar's situation seems to reflect what is also happening in Singapore. Poor migrant workers living in cramped conditions, and I suspect very poor ability to access sick leave. Incubator for COVID.

Also not dissimilar in Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.

Qatar has a 99.9% survival rate.
There are no figures on who makeup of the ~110 deaths. Could be 90-year olds with weakened immune systems.

Stop the fear cough!

Qatar. If our son can get an exit permit then we have already discussed that.
The infection rate in Qatar is pretty alarming - 106,000 out of a population of 2,000,000, I make that 1:20.
Cabin crew, cleaners, transit security - all pooled from that number. I think I'd be avoiding QR for a while!

As of today Qatar has about 3k active cases. Out of the 106k mentioned, 103k have recovered. I am not saying it's perfectly safe to transit there, just saying it's not as alarming as the 1:20 number given above.

That infection rate is still bad.

Edit: Not sure how we got into active COVID cases discussion in this thread (Qantas Status Credits Boost). 🤔. Anyway, we don't yet know the extent of full recovery or partial recovery on the health of those affected

Qatar hit 103,000 total infections on July 11. Call me sceptical but I highly doubt everyone infected at that date is now fully recovered, but I get your point. What we don't know at this point is how many people are subsequently reinfected and remain asymptomatic - but now we are really getting off-topic.

It is relevant when judging risk alternatives to QF when looking at options to earn SCs while QF is not flying. I personally continue to look at what is currently available and potential options in 3, 6, 9 months due to the frailty of family members in the UK. Because of the *current* stats there are options I would not consider ...
