I'd be looking at QR as a serious option for my European trips if they joined OW. Not sure it would be good for QF.

Could be if QR are willing to go halvsies in Jetstar Qatar with them.

Yes Yes Yes! Bring it on!

Having flown QR before, i'd gladly step foot on board their 777's they fly to AU (the 330's from DOH to EU are not so grand alas but it's the shorter flight). whY seat pitch is bearable, and their J product is very good value for money (compared with most ways of getting to EU).

DOH is a bit of a hole, but I believe that's being remedied this year.

Would really open up options to EU as well beyond BA and QF (I'm discounting CX here even though they do do that).

I'm always up for more ways to fly to Europe, considering QF loves cutting back its international network.

Edit: Maybe they have a new JV partner :p /sarcasm

I think the alliances approach to the ME has been mishandled. They should have been sending out invitations 5yrs ago before these airlines cottoned onto the idea they don't really need alliances when they are sitting on oil deposits that everyone else wants to use. Of course, when you're a hot candidate everyone wants to be your friend. But you've got choices then and maybe you can say....well we built this massive airline and a great airport in such a short time, what can you really offer us? We can afford to do everything ourselves if we choose. You really only want us now that we are eating into your market share.

I can't see any ME airline/business looking at an alliance proposal in this fashion.

They will consider an alliance model that supports and grows their own business.

Remember we stop there because we don't have nonstop services, in the main.

Re: Qatar Airlines likely to join Oneworld

And the Middle East gets murkier. Qatar with BA - and soon to be OW. Emirates with QF. Etihad with AB, MH. This will be fun to watch, and confusing as all heck for the travelling public that aren't regulars on AFF.

Re: Qatar Airlines likely to join Oneworld

Choices Choices Choices Oh my what to do in this world or starry future or should we enjoy playing as a team? Seriously it is interesting times ahead for all with more and more choices could this be to the detriment of QF?

Don't forget AB and MH are OW members. Confusing even if you are a AFF regular!

Very very interesting if this is indeed true. Some people see OW as lagging behind, but with Qatar, MH, Sri L and TAM OW seems in a good position to me.

Re: Qatar Airlines likely to join Oneworld

Maybe, but the time i took Qatar to Europe in 2010 i liked the experience even in Y... And seeing that i mainly use my QFF points for OW 140k awards, for which Emirates would be useless, the addition of Qatar to OW would be welcome news for me anyway... And yes, more choice is always good, specially from Perth which almost doesn't exist for QF at least internationally...

Re: Qatar Airlines likely to join Oneworld

Surely QF management was aware that OW was going to sign up one of the ME3 and obviously not the anti-alliance EK. If not, then that's a level of incompetence we have yet to witness.

There has always been similar arrangements alongside alliances, so it shouldn't become a problem. Just don't expect to find yourself on anything besides EK if you're booking through QF. For those of us who book more liberally, fun times ahead.

Finally it's starting to show up *A a lot, they have always had overlapping quantity vs. OW supposedly quality. Besides the ME, they're obviously next to useless here at home. Let's not forget poor scaryteam..

Re: Qatar Airlines likely to join Oneworld

It has been pointed out over at Travelling better that we may be jumping the gun here. The announcement on 8/10 may be to announce TAM is joining OW.
Qatar (QR) to join oneworld? (incl. comments by Willie Walsh) - Page 2 - Traveling Better Forums

1>, When Taca-Avianca joined star alliance. In their press release they said: Its Brazil company will not be a member of star alliance due to TAM membership in star alliance. they said very clearly that the TACA-Avianca Brazil star alliance membership will not be decided or clear until December 2012. I read that as: TAM will not quit star alliance until the earliest December 2012.

2>, If TAM is to join oneworld on 8th october, I would expect LAN CEO or Managing Director would be among those attending the ceremony. But he is not in the list mentioned.

So I still think the 8th october announcement is more or less a ME airline. TAM may come next quarter, or come as a suppliment of this announcement.
