Qatar - Adelaide to Doha

Need some advice from the Qatar/Avios experts!

I managed to find Adelaide to Doha on 28 December for 108k avios one way in Business, which seems like a pretty good find given that almost every other Qatar flight I’ve searched around the same period, departing from various Australian cities, is pricing at 180k Avios.

My only hesitation is the aircraft. It’s currently showing an A350-900, which I believe has the Super Diamond business class seats rather than Qsuites.

Would you keep the 108k booking and just check availability every day in case a Qsuite flight opens up, then cancel and rebook? Or am I completely overthinking this and should just be happy with the A350 business class seat and the much lower redemption? ( I also need to fly to Adelaide to make this flight)

It’s a long flight, so obviously Qsuites would be amazing, but I also don’t want to give up a very good redemption chasing something that may never appear.

Yes, ADL will still have the non QSuites product at that time. Whilst not as good of a product it’s still comfortable enough if you can’t find anything else.
You could always get a cheap flight to Asia and then pick up QSuites for 75k Avios or even as low as 62,500 Avios

I don’t rate the Qsuites because the large headrest is not flush with the seat meaning it can be difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position.

the a350s headrest still isn’t flush, but it is smaller.

If you can find an award seat I’d grab it and enjoy!

Agree , it should be 94k on this route, but I’ve searched every date and sector I can think of and can’t find anything below 180k.

What’s making it even more frustrating is that Seats.aero says the Qatar Privilege Club system isn’t working properly, so live availability isn’t coming through. That basically leaves me manually searching date by date.

Do you know of any other tools or methods I could use to search Qatar award availability more efficiently?

Thanks mate. Yeah, for me it’s ultimately about getting anywhere into Europe. once I’m there, I can easily move around.

I always thought Adelaide was pretty reliable for QSuites, but suddenly they’ve changed the aircraft/configuration.

I’m guessing it must just be a really busy time of year, right?

@JayTee are you wedded to ADL or was that the only option. I have (had) bookings with QR exADL next year and the aircraft was showing Qsuites when I was booking. I had to change the flights as QR must have changed their schedule and the flights from ADL were no longer flying on the day I wished to travel so now I am leaving exMEL. My return back into ADL was originally Qsuites but the seat map has changed to the other J class seats and in IMO there is nothing wrong with those seats, I have flow it before. My flight from MEL is in Qsuites.

108K points seems a little high, does that include you flight to get to ADL? The 180k points is normally based on standard J (not the discounted one, off peak) it cost us 85k Avios to get ADL-DOH-LHR, and more recently 95k Avios each way MEL-DOH-HKG; HKG-DOH-ADL and that is a J and F combo with DOH-HKG and back been in F on the leased ex CX aircraft. I am not sure if QR have increased the Avios requirements in the recent past (few months).

Thanks mate. I’m definitely not wedded to ADL , it was simply the only option I could find at anything close to the Saver rate for the dates I’m looking at. I’m actually starting in Sydney, so I’ll still need to buy a separate one way ticket SYD ADL.

I thought the Saver rate was around 90k Avios, which is why the 108k stood out to me. I’ve searched SYD, MEL, BNE and ADL across heaps of dates and most of what Qatar is showing me is around 180k.

The QSuite issue is probably me overthinking it. I’ve flown QSuites before and love them, but if the other J seat is still decent, I’m probably better off keeping the 108k booking and just watching availability in case something better pops

If anyone manages to find me a Saver fare between 20 December and 5 January, ( for 85-90k) please let me know! I’m completely flexible. I don’t care where I depart from in Australia ( Perth is iffy, ) or where I land in Europe. I just need to get there
