Hi All,

Does anyone know how strict Qantaslink are with the baggage allowance (23kg on website), will they allow normal increased 32kg allowance that I get on mainline qantas on a Dash-8 when connecting to a standard QF flight although the bag is only 25 kg.

I fly them a lot on Dash8's and occasionally have over 23kg in a bag with work stuff. I have never had an issue..... they know me and I have status - I don't know if, or how much that contributes to my experience

Hi All,

If you're PS, QP, SG & WP you get the same allowance even for Qlink flights but you'll notice at the auto bag drop that you'll get a prompt for heavy bags (can't remember if it's when they exceed 20 or 23 kg) that uplift is not guaranteed on the flight due to weight issues.

On Dash8 flights you can take one piece of carry on luggage onboard that I understand can be up to 7 kilos going by the PA's I've heard them make (carry on used to be only 4 kilos). In addition to this they will allow you to give them another piece at the boarding gate as premium hand luggage (not to exceed 7 kilos) that will be put in the hold. They do this as there's not the locker space onboard a Q400 for two items unlike jets used on QF mainline services.

As they're taking this item at the gate you won't be able to have any sharp items in it as you need to go through the security screening point first.

Why not pack a 20 kilo suitcase as your checked bag allowance plus a rollaboard not more than 7 kilos as your premium hand luggage plus your other carry on item.

Thanks for the replys I might just take the hand luggage with the extra in to keep the main suitcase under to be safe

Quite often they have a section for "premium hand luggage" - that is, hand luggage that would fit on a jet, but doesn't in the overhead lockers of a Dash. They collect it from you sometimes as you enter the plane, and it is available once you have disembarked. You could try a "small enough to fit in the overhead locker" + "premium hand luggage" + check in if you really wanted to try and push the boat out (and try your luck). But don't blame me if it doesn't work.

Yes they do, flew in from OS 2 weeks ago with 29kgs and have no choice but to fly the final leg in a Dash-8.

Thanks everyone asked a check in and the guy on the desk told me that you get whatever you are entitled to on mainline service.
