I have a friend that is flying (tomorrow) from BNE to ROK on a Qantaslink flight.
She asked me what her baggage allowance would be? I said that I thought that
it would be 23kg (as shown on the Qantas site).

After a closer inspection of her ticket it has towards the bottom "QANTASLINK SERVICES All customers 1 piece at 16kg (35lb)".

Could someone please tell me which one is correct? 16kg seems a bit light to me.

The allowance is what ever your baggage allowance your entitled to (so Y - 23kgs). The 16kg thing, maybe something that has been there for years and hasn't been removed?

Flew Q-link last week with the family, CFS - SYD then to Perth.

23 kgs allowed for each Y passenger. I was even able to check in a extra bag being SG no issues.

Thanks for the replies. I did not want to give her the wrong advice then have her pay for the
extra kg's.:)

To tell the truth I had never noticed the 16kg allowance on the tickets before. I only ever print
off the first page.

As I think I've maybe mentioned in another thread and slightly OT. It is amazing QF is able to provide you with about 8 pages of ticket info but can't get the ticket or the booking in MMB to show your actual allowance per status and class and only provide generic info. Admittedly not limited to QF as AY on a J RTW fare showed different allowances on different J sectors.

I have done that flight a few years ago, and was told due to the aircraft on the route the weight allowance was different to normal

Exception do exist for some destinations

I travel that route often enough, but only ever for one or two nights, so I only ever have onboard luggage..in saying that, from memory the overhead compartments for onboard luggage on that flight (dash 8) is physically smaller than normal..so thought i would give you the heads up..

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If your carry-on is too big for the overhead bins they'll just tag it as premium and carry it in the hold. You pick it up after the flight near the stairs or ramp.

Not the same airport but our bags for longer os trips come in at just under 20kegs. Never had any comment when checking them through from PQQ.

I think the issue re showing the status adjusted allowance is the allowance is based on the status you have on the day you fly not book. So you would be asking what I would imagine to be quite basic back end system to interrogate the frequent flyer database to extract status AND the expected expiry date of that status.
