Qantas today announced it will add two additional return services between Sydney and Santiago and extend four return services between Santiago to Rio de Janeiro* to cater for demand during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Qantas CEO International Simon Hickey said Qantas operating services to Rio was exciting news for soccer fans who are waitlisted on services to Rio.

“As the official airline of the Socceroos, we are pleased to offer fans the opportunity to travel with Qantas all the way through to Rio in June and support the Socceroos as they take on the world,” said Mr Hickey.

“South America is an important market for Qantas and the extension of our services to Rio during the World Cup means more convenience for our customers.”

“Qantas’ services are the fastest way for fans to get from Sydney to Rio,” added Mr Hickey.

Qantas currently operates three return services per week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday) and codeshares on LAN’s daily services.

Jeez late notice. Would have been handy 4 months ago when I cancelled my plans because of the cost.
