During the recent Qantas double status offer I was trying to book a Sydney- Singapore- Sydney return Business Class flight.
Outbound 24 June - Return 8 July
The initial bookings page offered: Business Saver fare $2367 for the outbound leg and for the return leg Business Sale $1149 and Business Saver $1424

As soon I I selected the outbound leg the return leg fares jumped to $1885 and $2160 respectively

Whatever I attempted I could not snare the $1149 fare. I captured screenshots to prove it. I was able to obtain and book the $1885 Business Sale fare on the return leg.

Does anybody know why the fares change as soon as the outbound leg was selected ?
Thank you

It would be a matter of booking class availability, and the fare basis not allowing certain combinations. International fares can be pretty complex, it’s not as simple as booking two one way fares.

You often see this when booking with other airline websites; you select an outbound fare option and then several inbound options become unavailable.

Did you try using the QF App? It can sometimes be a bit more forgiving.

I managed to get a mixed Y-/Y+ fare SYD-SIN-SYD. Sale Discount Y (day flight) up to SIN and Y+ Sale fare home overnight (that was ultimately upgraded to J on points).
