Seat pitch still the same...the need to cram them in is as important as ever.

The seat though has this clever articulated recline, which means you do not encrouch into the space of the passenger that sits behind you as much., whilst still acheiving the same angle of recline.

Tricky to explain, but ingenius!

How does it work for tall people.
I assume you mean as the back reclines the seat move forwards which would mean you lose leg room unless the person in front does the same

I presume that means the seat slides forward rather than reclining from a fixed position.

I wonder how USB/RJ45 ports may be utilised?
I expect USB will just be to provide 5v to power/charge USB devices such as MP3 players, PPC etc.

Laptop power and free WiFi (via RJ45 port) in Y sounds very good.
um, where did you hear anything about free?

And WiFi and RJ45 are not the same. I assume RJ45 will be ethernet for wired internet service. I very much doubt any connection external to the aircraft (i.e. internet, SMS etc) will be free, especially in Y. Then again, I have been wrong before!

Oops, two errors in the one post.:oops:

I rechecked the article posted on the WiFi and indeed no mention of free :( (what was I thinking - this is QF). Considering what they are charging for voice calls then the price for WiFi access will probably discourage most users.

And yes, if true WiFi is offered and you have a WiFi equipped laptop then the RJ45 will not be necessary

I wonder if they will be selling ethernet patch cables in the in-flight duty-free catalogue?

I am not blown away by the small pic of the new J seat or the F seat - I guess we will still have to wait a little while to really see them in action. The idea of 80in pitch in J though is very appealing - I might actually get some decent sleep :)

of course the downside of a fully flat seat is that the feet of your neighbour are now likely to be several inches higher than with Skybed Mk I, making them more difficult to climb over - especially after a few "beverages". So al the more reason for me to aim for an aisle seat. At least the 2x2x2 seating means 66% of J seats are aisle seats, and 33% of them don't have a neighbour needing to climb over you.

You do lose a little leg room, but again the back is of the seat is moulded to maximise the use of all the avaialble space. Unless you relax with your knees locked together, you'll lose leg space.

If you relax and "lounge" yourself, then even the tallest people should be comfortable.

Those above average build though will always suffer in Y class though...absolutely nothing can be done about that unfortuantely. Except introduce a Y+ class of course.

Those pictures do them no justice at all...I promise you, when you see them in the flesh, or at least see larger & more detailed pictures of them, you will be impressed.

Has anyone been able to source any new QF Y+ pricing yet from Feb?

Any ideas when it will come online? :D :D

Your right, clever photography and the use of appropriate models always makes the seat larger than it actually is.

The technological boundaries were really pushed when desgning this seat however, to maximise the space. The seats for example are mounted on a single beam as opposed to the normal 2. Acheiving the necesary strength to pass the 16G tests was no small task. And all this so the passenger has more space for their legs underneath the seat.

It seems such a simple request "we want to give the passenger more space", but achieving it required $millions in development work.

I'd still prefer to fly in first though!!

Everthing on the First Class suite is electric and all operated from the console you can see mounted on the side partition....window shades, lights, TV monitor, the seat recline & swivel.

There are links to better pics in this post on FT

Ahh - some updated pics. F looks great :) The J seat looks a little untidy in that pic but flat will be great (I have started reverting back to QF product recently for flights into/out of Oz).

Juts wondering in F how it will work for two people travelling together. I am assuming the two middle seats will be able to face/turn towards each other?

As a follow up - given I have only just woken up and not fully awake yet - is there an indication of updating of current 744 fleet with new F/J seats/
