Qantas to Norfolk Island

Any must do's on the island that you could recommend?

drron posted an excellent trip report last November. But you have probably digested that alteady.

Definitely try Hilli Restaurant, but you will have to book. Also Aunt Mary’s kitchen for lunch, overlooking the golf course. The four museums in the Kingston convict area are definitely worth getting a museum pass for. Allow at least half an hour each. On a clear day the view from Mt Pitt gives a great overview of the island. And ask a local if a supply boat will be delivering during your stay. Head down to the pier in the convict area to see how bulk supplies come onto the island. Amazing how they do it.
A rental car is a must - most places come with one or can arrange either pickup at airport or where you stay.

Many places are short staffed (with all the restrictions/limitations) - so check opening times etc

The Homestead restaurant is also a must. We ate there once but would have happily gone back several nights. But it’s short schlep from town.

Castaways and Brewery was quite good also for food and drinks.

Unless a miracle has occurred, your mobile won’t roam on the island. There’s limited wifi about town, but you can get a Norfolk sim in town.

It would pay to read through this thread and @drron’s trip report

I liked Samh004’s idea to fly J to experience the F lounge at SYD but it would seem that the QF First lounge is closed according to QF website update on July 1st. Can anyone confirm?

I guess that is due to Sydney lockdown, would make sense if dining in is not allowed in Sydney then it wouldn't be allowed at the airport?

Warbly on for this bit:
Not sure where to go, once our (domestic) borders open, or any international borders, apart from the NZ travel bubble.
Looks like it might be ZQN for me next Jul, assuming that vaccinations are going at a pace that the Aust and NZ govts will be sane, and not shut borders again.
As some of you know, I love my wide body planes, discJ on a 737 might be good, but still, it does not have that "kick" of the discJ on a 330/350/787.
Norfolk Island, maybe that can wait, in my case, ZQN is #1, maybe HND is #2, ...
PC?
I know of most airport codings, or city codes, but PC, as in Priority Club?
CL? (grin).
With the SA govt now closed it borders with some states, it will be hard to travel again.
Grounded (again) for the time being.
Warbly off.

I’ve booked us in Y but I wondered whether I could make a J booking for the same flights or will the QF server recognise that and spit it out?

So I’m due to fly out today. Guy in front of me at security has a couple of loaves of bread in his carry on- “where I’m going there’s not much food”. Have established he is going to Norfolk Island also. Do I need a last minute provisioning run at the airport??

Not really. There is a supermarket in town and a good butcher/deli across the road from the airport. We did take a packet of mrsdrron's favourite breakfast cereal that's all.Prices a bit higher but we had no problems with provisions.

Hopefully just one of those doomsday preppers!

The super market has most things but not necessarily a lot of choice. The island was out of tonic water when we were there.

There’s a bakery next to the supermarket and another small butcher (who has limited seasonal fruit, veg and local eggs).

All good, I usually live in an aboriginal community in the NT so very used to scraping by on whatever is available

Be prepared for the cost of the limited fresh fruit and vege on the island...however, it won't break the bank for a week or so ;)

Ok so, there is in fact a food shortage- on account of the boat having been moored offshore for 4 days and not able to get in. However, the supermarket still feels pretty well stocked and avocados are cheaper than Darwin

I know they say not to but I am on foot today. Mix up with hire car. I have also found the shop selling golliwogs which is pretty much the stereotype of the island I had

You don't win friends with salad...

I am guessing I don't need this declaration on return from NLK, and it's just a QF quirk in manage my booking?
