We hope to go to LA in September on Qantas and the options are the A380 and 787. We are all tall and can't remember where and how big the entertainment boxes are on the old and new interior A380s and the 787 on the Qantas planes. There are 3 of us and would be most interest in the 3 seats between the windows and isle in any row. Does anyone have any advice? Also some people complain that the 787 seats are a bit hard. Would the a380 be a better option for that reason?

Can't help with your actual question but ISTR reading a lot of recent complaints that there is currently no IFE on the QF trans Pacific A380s. So if being able to watch IFE is important you might pick the 787.

Note that the 787 Y seats are 1 inch better in pitch (legroom) but slightly narrower than the A380.
And harder - its a moot point comparing the two Y seats though - basically putting lipstick on a pig type scenario
But will have the newer IFE - better resolution at 1080P and wider and more responsive screens than the A380.
QF says the A380 Y seat IFE will be "enhanced" for better responsiveness - even though the screen remains the same - I suspect they upgraded the central IFE server.

Note that every time QF says the word "enhanced", there is an automatic chuckle from AFF members.

The bigger problem is QF is proposing to slash cabin crew pay to the absolute minimum of the industrial award. How that plays out in the cabin at 38000 ft I don't know.

I do know that that has precipitated the loss of a lot of experienced crew.

Just wait until Qantas introduces IFE that's "simpler and fairer".

Upgrade of the OS on the A380 IFE I'm guessing?
