Qantas to cut fuel surcharge on domestic airfares

QANTAS will cut its fuel surcharge on domestic airfares by up to $5 following a fall in world oil and jet fuel prices.

Fares per sector on Qantas and QantasLink jet service will fall to $21, from $26, from Friday.

But as always typical the cuts are announced after I have booked all of my flights through to end of March 2009. :-|

My reaction exactly. Whoopy doo! Domestic flights have been flucuating a lot recently and some of the more recent sales put some key domestic routes at significant discounts to previous normal fares, and even previous sales. $5 is very little , and week to week movement of the actual fares is what counts.

I guess it is a step in the right direction, but for QFF's its the international ones that really count. It's almost like a cartel - who's going to be the first airline in this part of the world to break ranks and dare to reduce the surcharge significantly? (Apart from the overpriced one's like JL) With weakening demand it seems they're all happy to play around with the fares, but not the surcharges.
