I live and work in China only returning to Australia perhaps once a year but am a Qantas FF since 1994 and also Qantas Club Member since 2010. Salary about $5500 a year - work for the love of it and not the pay! Am only a bronze card holder so am wondering if there is a way to change to perhaps silver or is it worth it. I accumlate FF points on my credit cards

Re: Qantas Status

You pay for QC? You come once a year? Surely that money would be better spent feeding a family in china for a year.

Do you fly much?

Re: Qantas Status

As QC member not really worth chasing Silver.... Gold is different as it gives you Qantas Club access and more (with oneworld Sapphire status)...
But as Pu Koh says, how many times a year do you use the Qantas Club facilities.
If only 4 lounges for $500+, I would be saving the money and buying me a nice meal at the airport.

You can only get to Silver (or any of the higher levels) by flying more on Qantas or partner airlines. It does not, in my opinion, give much at all over and above Qantas Club (in fact QC probably gives you more by virtue of lounge access). So given your apparent travel habits, probably not worth it.

Re: Qantas Status

As others have mentioned, if you're taking 4 flights a year, what's the point? You're definitely not going to magically get upgraded just because you have a Silver card (there's Gold, Platinum, Platinum One, Chairmans Lounge, OneWorld Sapphires and Emeralds all ahead of you).

In addition, you have to take 4 QF flights a year at minimum to attain any higher tier.

Also, as mentioned, i'd forego the lounge access and spend the cash on a nice meal at the airport (if they're available; they certainly are in MEL and SYD).
