Hi, tried to find an existing answer to this one but my search only found discussions from over ten years ago.

I'm a Qantas LTG. Also a member of AAdvantage, and next year I'll be looking to use my remaining AA points to book a flight from MAD-BOS in Y. My question then is, if I book using my AA points I'm guessing the system won't pick up my OW Sapphire status and activate the status benefits. I'm thinking at the airport I'll be able to access benefits by showing my QF digital card, but would ideally like to also access the pre-flight benefits like seat selection.

Can anyone advise if my assumptions are correct and if so is there a workaround to activate the pre-flight benefits?

Thanks

You should be able to change the frequent flyer number after booking, either on the operating airline's website or at the very least, when checking in. That way you'd get Qantas Gold benefits.

Alternatively, could you use AAdvantage miles to book for "someone else" and then enter that person as someone with your name and your QFF number? That works for me when redeeming Avios.

Thanks Mattg, I would never have thought of that second option. Both would be worth a try.
