Qantas staffer 'gave boy number'

Interestingly, when I was 16 I had the same happen to me. I did my usual chat to the FA's and on the way back, the Virgin FA very obviously placed his number in my hand and asked me if I was in MEL again, to give him a ring and he would "show me a good time." Quite flaterring, but I'm not inclined in that way so I was quite embarrased with my Mother and Sister sitting next me.

Having said that, I have a good mate who is a QF CSM that was on three or four of my flights and we now catch up regularly.

EDIT: Removed question from post.

That leads me to my question which is a tad OT. Have any of you (particuarly the single ones ;) ) ever been approached on a plane, or caught up with someone else who who you met at 40,000 feet?
*ahem*
 ;) :p ;) :D

No, but then again I don't quite look like this bloke:

Um, let's get some perspective here and look at the guts of this rather than giggle like schoolboys about a potential mile high club fling.

It's a bloody disgrace. An unaccompanied minor being approached by an adult with an intent to undertake some unsavoury activity. "Why don't we just chat" is predator talk for much more than that.

If the accusation is proven correct, this mongrel should go down hard. It is a disgrace that a parent can't put their child onto a plane and expect a high duty of care from the airline that will protect the child from any danger whatsoever.

I agree sully - but if he is 16 then he wouldnt be a UM and the cabin crew would not necessarily know that. The boy may have looked and acted older and thus prompted the interaction.

Not defending the crew - we just as ever don't have the full story...

The article says he was 15. Any difference? I know he may be mature for his age but many a person has failed on the "didn't know she was jailbait" defence.

BTW, it would be just as bad if the FA was female so I am not on an anti gay tirade.

Sully, I completely agree. Male or female, its wrong. At 15 he is a minor, but at 15 he clearly knows what he is doing. I was merely pointing out that its not like this is the first time its happened and it won't be the last. It is no doubt quite embarrassing for the individual and even more sad that we have someone aged 20+ interested in teenagers.

If I head back on thread (apologies), I suspest this is definitely the case. He would have spoken with the crew member at the back of the plane and as such, sought out the interaction. I think this is definitely one for authorities to sought out because the story isn't giving us enough information. I am in no way defending the crew member but it may have been different had this have been a cabin crew member of the opposite sex.

Dare I ask why? Surely grooming a person under the age of consent is a crime regardless of the gender of the people involved?

As has been previously noted there is without doubt a lot more to this story than has yet been reported. In any situation there are 3 sides to a story, yours, the other party and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Since the article doesn't state the age of the crew member it's possible that he was 18 or 19 - and very possible that the passenger looked older than 15.

At 15 there would be no record of his age since there doesn't need to be. While I don't approve of crew giving passengers their number - I'm sure the crew member didn't mean any harm.

How can you be sure of that?

In my view, a full investigation is warranted before any conclusion can be made sith such certainty. So are you implying that you know more details about the incident than have been reported in the press?

I think he was probably just assuming the best of people in general instead of assuming the worst at the outset.
